Just pulled in from the second camping trip this summer with the 7.3 X. Performed flawlessly like always without any issues. The lie-o-meter right now says this years average so far is 15.1MPG. pretty much every time my X moved this year there was some sort of trailer(s) behind it.

On my 2002 7.3, I lost my first CPS right at 100,000 miles, then the next one at 145,000, then the last one at 181,000. I bought my spares from Ford. I sold it when it had 182,000 miles and bought my 2008 V-10. I now have 91,000 care free miles on the V-10and it is the BEST Ford pickup I have ever owned. I could care less about the mileage when I know I just have to gas it up and change the oil ($19.95) and go down the road.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

So you added to my thread, and that's OK. Like I said, I don't care about the mileage, as long as I know I have reliability. That means more to me than if I get 11-12 mpg vs 15-17 but I don't know if I'm going to make it home pulling my 30' Airstream up all those mountain passes. When you figure your fuel cost vs gasoline and the extra maintenance issues, it's about a wash, even with your better fuel mileage. This has been proven many, many times on this thread, so give it up. If you really need the extra torque, then you go for it, but 80% of the diesel owners don't need that extra torque to tow for the weekend.

Right. I mean who would want that extra torque for climbing those mountain passes with a 30' trailer. And mileage... phhh... who cares.

I've never needed any additional torque with this 2008 V-10 and the Torqshift tranny. It surly has more TQ than the stock '93-2002 7.3's and with a better tranny. Once you get into the 6 leakers with the TQ Shift, then it becomes almost a wash. Ask me how I know. Now the new 2011 diesels are way over this argument and will blast by my V-10, but again, it costs almost $8,000 over the gas engine right from the top. Not to mention all of the extra maintenance issues and the urea tank issues. If that's what you want, then go for it. I see whare Ford has a propane factory setup for the V-8 gasser, sounds like a really good setup to me.

So I noticed in your sig that you have put alot of money in mods to your 7.3. How much have you spent to maybe keep up with a V-10?

With what he has done it should run right there with a 3v V10.

Takes Both. Its all about the power curve, and the useable RPM range of said curve.

Not too much really, the chip was the most expensive part. Also the best. Could have just dropped a straight pipe in it for $60, but decided the full SS 4" was better. And the intake was like...$60.

But all that doesn't matter...because you are just a hater.

Oh, ane my 02 has about 525ft/lb BEFORE the chip... pretty sure thats more than your 08 V10. After the chip.... well....

I really doubt it, since I have the Diablo Sport programmer, AFE intake and Magnaflow exhaust. I spent a total of $855 for all 3 items and I have been using them since my truck had 3500 miles. I now have 91,000+ miles and never a single problem of any kind.

I just hand calc. my last tank of fuel. It was alot of city/55mph 2 lane driving.

I was driving very aggressively , shifting hard and pretty high in the rpm band, cruising at 60-65 (passing a few cars here and there) on the 2 lane roads (with my 4.10s 65 mph is 2200rpm) and general hot rodding around......

(I did have and extra 1000lbs in the bed for about half that time too.)

17.2 mpg on that tank.

What would a v10 get driving like that? 10 mpg maybe?

So Pappy, how much RWHP do you think you have?

His 7.3L should have about 300 RWHP, and 600+ TQ probably at least 650.

I don't want to sound disagreeable, but I think you would have a hard time keeping up, empty or loaded.
