Man you have a very low opinion of americans. 41/64 > 5/8 by 1/64th. That is a lot easier to do in the head for most than figuring. Which is larger 3/64 or .225. Which we can do 2 different ways. Change the dec to fraction or fraction to dec. So what you have is 3÷64=.047 or .225/1000=1/4 3/64<.225. This is elementry math. .
Really?
Just as above sample shows -the system calls for making mistakes.
In metric 1km=1000m=10,000cm=100,000mm
No math necessary and not a big margin for making errors.
BTW, what is the lug nut on F450? I am using 13/16" but it is pretty tight. I have a feeling that it should be metric. Anybody remembers the torque from the top of the head?

I see what your saying. Its no big deal for me. It wasn't any trouble tesching .y daughter fractions and decebiles but man she's haveing trouble grasping metric.
On 04s lugs are 13/16{21mm. The torque is 150lbs{200nm
Ya, I don't see how any of his examples are supporting his case.
What's my case? That fractions isn't hard to do? It takes just a second to see what unit is larger than the other?they where his examples. Easy examples I might add.

The reason she's having trouble grasping metric is because it's SO SIMPLE. Kids get taught fractional measurements and decimals from the time they're 6, so they are looking for the catch, or try to equate the metric into standard for relation. If you tell someone to go get a 1lb of beef, but order it in metric weight, they'll usually come back with 2.2lbs of it, instead of just ordering 1/2 a kilo of it. I wish we would go to metric. France finally got something right.

I wish that was her problem. She's having trouble learning/remembering the order of units and how many units make up the next unit. I would go along with she's not trying cause she already knows the sae.
I can't say she aint trying. It does no good if you don't know the order or how many units make the next unit. She's confused on both sides. She understands small and large numbers. Or at least compaired to their units. She'll some times reverse cm and mm. Thinking cm is smaller. So of she is asked how many mms is in a m she won't beable to tell you.
Its all 10's. If you know the order, IE m, dm, cm, mm then it is easy. 3 down, so 10*10*10 or 1000 mm in a M.
All she really needs is the order on both sides, and to know how to multiply 10's and she will be set.

Well how I tought her was:
10mm=1cm
10cm=1dm
10dm=1m
1000m=1km
So working w/ mm all you to do is x10 however many places.
How the teacher teachs and make her do it is
1km=1000m kilo means 1000
10dm=1m. Deci means 10
100cm=1m cent means 100th
1,000,000=1m milli means millionth
Then ask how many meter is 132 cm? She just can't keep straight what the order is.
get her to write it out on a note card from the top to the bottom. kilo, hecto, deca, base, deci, centi, milli. then she can look at the card for the unit she is in and the unit she is going to and thus just count down or up the card and find how many times to move the decimal.
