Now if we go with our specialty/training, I would be buying an IGCC power plant, (i.e. a clean coal power plant that operates around 50 bar or 780 psi). There are only 4 of them in the world and all of them were built on government dollars, (2 US and 2 Europe). So I have the government pay for about 50% of it. I still have to come up with the couple of billion or so for the cost share though... Any one got that cash on hand?
Humm... A 1.5 million dollar truck with vinyl seats and no CD player... I think I would at least op for the XLT xince you are only talking about a $3000 increase at most, which is 0.2% increase in price. You might get happier employees that way
These trucks are taken out of service as soon as they hit 180,000 miles no matter what kind of shape they are in. The drivers of these trucks are given the option of buying the truck from the company for $1 when they hit the 180,000 mile limit. This not only encourages them to take better care of the trucks, but it also makes for some happy employees. Getting a 2 year old truck with 180,000 miles, a 6" lift and off road tires for $1 isn't a bad deal for them. Vinyl seats and floors are the only kind that make sense in this line of work because you are constantly covered in mud and cloth and carpet would be a mess after one job.
I think we need to get this back on topic. My PSD will out pull your V-10. Now, ain't that better.
Did about 400 miles today from Canton, OH to Hershey PA area. First tow with the F-450 w/ 6.4 towing 8000# TT I used to tow with the V10 Excursion. NO comparison at all. I set my cruise at 70 mph turning about 2200 rpm and forgot about it. Pulled every hill between home and Hershey and it never so much as grunted, let alone downshifted. I know for a fact I'd have been cranking 4000 rpm on some of these hills to try to maintain speed.
I loved my V10 truck, and love the V10 Excursion, but for heavy hauling there is no comparison and there is no amount of spin that will make it so.
Your comparing a 2V V10/4R100 to a 6.4/5R110 though.
Get an 05 or newer V10 and it will pull with the 6.4.
the 3V V10 is far better than the 2V V10, but it is still pretty happy to down shift to 4th. Although much more reluctant to down shift all the way to 3rd.
Also remember, he has an F450, so he probably has 4.30 gears with his 6.4, although his RPM's look a little low for that gearing, but he may have had bigger tires than I did,

Interesting... a $1 truck is a pretty good deal. Amazing they can still make $10k an hour when they drive 90k miles a year.

I notice he chose to omit the fuel economy with that 4.30 geared 6.4L too.
Comparing a 4r100 equipped 2V with a 5R110 equipped 6.4L makes as much sense as comparing a 4.6L F150 with a 6.7L F250.

You are forgetting a few details that greatly pertain to this conversation, some of them have already been mentioned.
The X had the 2-valve V10, a 4R100, and what gearing?
The F450, which is in a completely different class in terms of handling loads than the X, has what gearing?
If you were to take a brand-new 3-valve V10-powered F450 and put that 8000# trailer on the back of it, it would be "no comparison" to an X, regardless of the powerplant.

I think he mentioned something like 14 empty on the way back from Texas.

That's not "spin", except on your part.
The '08-'10 F450 pickup has 4.30 gears and the 6.4. You can only get different gears and such if you go to the commercial version I believe.
LSChicago has basically the same truck with a V10, except I think he has 4.88 gears, and it tows far more than 8k lbs.
I've towed with both. The V10 is a great engine, but it's no diesel when it comes to work.
At some point you're really going to have to give up this schtick you're trying to sell....it's really getting old.
I don't think anyone is selling anything. Most of us agree there are times a PSD is better and times a V10 is better. For instance, I rarely towed with my SD (somewhere around 1,000 miles a year). So high revving for that time didn't bother me. Also I work fairly close to home, a PSD would not even get warmed up on my daily commute, diesel don't really like frequent short trips like that.

Art, this has nothing to do with this thread titled, "V10 vs psd". No mention of engine year in the title. Compare each to all the years, and you will see the PSD will come out on top.
