I was wondering what search engine Ed is using. I tried doing a search on Barney, and all I got was that stupid purple dinosaur. I like Ed's search results better.
Good lord, Ed. I thought we had it bad over here! The price per $100 in value isnt that bad but when the value jumps around like it does it sucks. I think its like .88 per 100 in value here.
That house I posed has a county assessed value at 236K right off the bat, no improvements or anything. Got an appointment to view it on Tuesday.
Brent, you might be swamped with PMs here in the next few months if we get it! lol
You on Verizon?? If so your getting my cell #. Be much faster...LMAO!!! Seriously, building is something I never get tired of, feel free to ask whatever you wish... Oh and tools, cant stop talking about tools either. Guess I picked the right job!!! LOL!

Anybody ever bid on any state jobs?? I'm looking at one now and its ridiculous the amount of bonding and crap paperwork I am doing. Thinking about passing altogether. Just wondering if you guys had dealt with that.
Well, back to work for me, bids wont finish themselves!! I'll try to check in tonight....

Brent dad does tons of local and state contracts/bidding.
I filled out my first bid form this spring. Wasn't too bad. Figure a few things out. Send in a bid deposit. Wait for the results.
The thing that sucked was that I was low bidder and I still didn't get the job.
But everyone knows that story already.
It's worth it in the end though. The check is guaranteed to be good and it pays decent enough since not everyone is willing to go through all the bonding and paperwork.
Just keep hounding your contact until you get paid. We did a job and the contract said we didn't get paid until the grass was 4" high. We kept calling and they kept saying the grass wasn't 4" yet. So we went up to the job to look and we could see where the #$%#$ mowed it. We had a check the week after.
Brent...I know I probably asked you this but did you get your rear bags online or locally?! Im prolly gonna get some rear ones soon...were they direct bolt on or did you have to drill?!

Sweet! You have the ENV2 also?? Dang, I love mine. Nothing broken yet, but we'll see. I would prefer to go Nextel with all my subs using that but the service here is garbage. Verizon tells me their push to talk will not work on Nextels network either...lame.

Just keep after them.
Cool Pete, thanks. Just having a tough time with the bonding right now. We are required to carry a 12k bond to be a general, which I have, but they are calling for a $400,000 bond, and my bonding agent wants 4% up front!!!!!! OUCH!! I dont have that kind of money just laying around to drop on a bond, especially when I am busy doing what I'm doing. The funny thing is, the job is supposed to cost $400,000 to build, and for the life of me I cant get it over $300,000 even if I triple my labor rate!
Okay, for real, I'll be back later..lol

Locally and got killed, they were $100 too high in price, but I needed them that day. Yeah. I had to drill, bummer. Couple nice holes in the frame...lovely. Oh well, they work great!
For real, I'm going now...LOL Cant stay away from you guys....
Yea, the ONE button I need...the friggin send button! Ive gotta open it up and then close it to answer the phone. Really annoying! Other than that its been one of the greatest, toughest phones Ive owned!
The town here wanted us to put down a 500k bond on a road we would be building into a subdivision we would be building. Not quite. That was just as well though since that was just before the market tanked so we would be in a million bucks for a road into a worthless subdivision.

State's not near as bad as Federal. My advice is get a copy of the bidders list. Economy is slow right now, and as a result, lot's of private contractors start going after the public stuff. Too many people bidding a public project usually means the guy who makes the biggest mistake preparing his bid ends up with the job.
My advice to you is to prepare your number, but turn in a no bid if you've already gotten the documents. Then get a copy of the bid results and see where you would have fallen. If you're in the ballpark, look to see if you could have done it for that number and adjust your figures accordingly on the next bid. If there's no way you would touch it for that, keep the names of the contractors that were ridiculously low, and when you see there name on a bid sheet, pass on that job.
Make sure to read all the paperwork. You need to meet the proper insurance requirements, etc.
If it were me I'd put in a bid on the job provided the required bid deposit wasn't too high.
Not bidding on a job because someone else is bidding on it is silly in my opinion.
The person controlling the bidding might not like a specific contractor and reject their bid or someone else might not perform and they'll move on to the next bidder.
Even if you know you won't be low bidder it is worth bidding.
A while ago we bid on a street sweeping job we knew we would get lowballed on. The lowballers didn't perform and we got the job for the price we bid it for.
Not trying to say you're wrong, Chris, since you're older and more experienced. Just thought I'd put in my .02 on it.
