Part VI
i found out thanksgiving when i broke my ankle that i have broke it 4 times before when i thought it was just sprained. you can see all the spots where the bones did not heal properly on the x-rays.
the 4 previous times were minor cracks. this tikme was 2 stress fractures in the leg bones at the ankle, and 4 chip fractures in the ankle socket. they took 2 chips out, and left the other 2 to reconnect to the joints.
but this rotator cuff thing was one nasty injury.
if felt like someone was sticking red hot icepicks into my shoulder joints.
My dad was out with a 3pt rotary mower and it caught a rock and flung it up and it hit him in the head.
He had the presence of mind to shut off the PTO and idle the tractor down before shutting the tractor off. (open station tractor BTW)
I was there in a Kawasaki Mule side by side we had for a little runabout so I drove him up to the barn to get cold water and something to press against it to stop the bleeding.
He got it to stop and then went back and brought the tractor up from the field. He didn't go to the hospital until later that night when it started bleeding a little again and mom made him go. He got 3 staples for that one. Drove himself there and back.
Then he was trying to get some old truck rear ends cut up and the rims taken out of the tires. So he took a torch and cut the centers of the rims loose and then he got them onto the tire squeezer. A tire squeezer is essentially like 3 wood splitters mounted with the wedges facing each other in a triangle type thing with the tire in the center and the wedges crush the rim so you can pull it out of the tire. So he had the big tire on there with the center loose. He went to squeeze it and it popped up and caught him in the face. It knocked out like 7 or 8 teeth. Most on top only one or two on the bottom. And it cut a gash through his bottom lip. He climbed up into the loader he was using, shut it off, and drove himself to the hospital. If he didn't have bad luck he'd have no luck.
He's one tough old bugger though. Sounds like your dad is the same way, Jake.
it ain't stubborn, or tough Pete.
it is just the knowledge that if you don't do it, it ain't gonna get done.
i learned as a very young boy that when you run the brush hog behind the 4020 you always wear a helmet and heavy jacket.
i had a helmet cracked when a rock came up and hit it, and also had a carhart jacket sliced open when a branch kicked back.
it ain't very comfortable wearing a carhart sub zero in july, but it beats having a 2 inch tree limb sticking out of your back!!
Hope everyone's been having fun!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Have a good day everyone. Trying to get J-L up and out the door for church. I'll catch up with you all later on.
Morning everyone
Todays gonna be a good day! I got this old chevy truck given to me for free, and some kids gonna come get it and give me 250 bucks for it. Not bad for a few hours of my time!
Good deal Sheldon!
I just ordered a Garmin 255W GPS unit off Amazon with this beanbag mount thing - with the gift cert's I had, it cost me $180!
Finally got the Passat back on the road too! Thanks to the ex, not only did I need a new wheel bearing, but the hub got trashed too! Yippee!! $125 to fix it doing most of the work isn't too bad, but it'll be a LONG LONG time before I give up the keys to a vehicle of mine again...
well Lisa, its a dodge thing. that is why you think it is not worth it.

but some idiot will think he is getting a good deal, and buy it.

As for that dodge, I shake my head. I know the powerplant is worth abit, but what the hell good would the rest of the truck be?!
YouTube - WHEEL CRUSHER
Imagine that guy going about 2x as fast as he is and then just throwing the crushed rims into a low side dumpster and putting the tires in a loader bucket to be put in a 100 yard walking floor trailer.
And here's one for Nick:
Here's how well MTLs work in mud
YouTube - ASV SR80 in the mud
In this video: Yellow = ASV = MTL, White = Bobcat = CTL
YouTube - ASV Bobcat Ground Pressure
Now if you're in crushed stone the CTL will outlast the MTL undercarriage and it's cheaper to rebuild. By a LOT. MTL rebuilds done by CAT can be in the neighborhood of 8-10 thousand dollars.
Morning everyone! Coffee is especially good this morning!
