I know alot of tough old guys like you guys were talking about. Ive come to the conclusion that most of the "toughness" in those old guys, is pure stubbornness!
If you aren't being dumb they're no more dangerous than a log splitter.
Definitely wear gloves to prevent getting stabbed by belts in nasty old tires and wear safety glasses if you don't wear seeing glasses like I do or you'll end up with a lot of dirt in your eyes. My glasses have Poly Carbonate lenses so I'm pretty well set in that department unless it's something severe.

Imagine that guy going about 2x as fast as he is and then just throwing the crushed rims into a low side dumpster and putting the tires in a loader bucket to be put in a 100 yard walking floor trailer.
Now if you're in crushed stone the CTL will outlast the MTL undercarriage and it's cheaper to rebuild. By a LOT. MTL rebuilds done by CAT can be in the neighborhood of 8-10 thousand dollars.
