With all this time he's spend working on the truck, I'm wondering if he'll have any vacation time left for the next 5 years!!

I appreciate the compliments. It makes me happy after everything to have it nearly complete.

Yup, I will. I'm pretty much self employed, so I can have vacation at anytime...well to a point anyway.

The tech at the dealership couldn't really find anything wrong based on the code scan. All sensors checked out ok. However, he thinks a flash of the ECM to current specs might fix it, or at least it's worth a shot. He didn't have time to do the flash today, since it takes a little over an hour. But, he's supposed to be calling me in the morning, come in to the dealership, and try the flash upgrade tomorrow with more time. No idea whether it will work or not, but it's worth a try.

So, that's where I'm at right now. Oh, no more power steering hose problems so far either. It burst at 5 miles yesterday. I went about 25 today with no issues.

Edit:

Easy on going to that stealership now your going to make the dodge boys jelous of having a truck with a perfect motor and a truck that won't fall apart. I do have to say you are one hell of a mechanic to do this all in just your driveway and in just a few short months. Check in on that extend warrenty.

Just as a practical joke you should take it to a Ford service department and complain about the turbo whistle. Tell them it just doesn't sound like it used too.

Man, that would be so hilarious except they would have to write up a work order and . They suck that way. The diesel tech should hear it right away when he pulled up though. This would be fun at my dealer in the summer because the doors are up all the time and they would have to come look.

You would want to stall as long as possible before you let them open the hood. I would love to see the look on their face. You know, the big DUH look.

On this note, Jeremy has not posted his observations from the Drudge dealership. I bet they were amazed.

I forgot to tell you guys I got some pretty interesting looks when I pulled into the Dodge dealership. The door to the sales showroom was open and several of the salesmen were rubbernecking when they saw the Ford truck pull up but heard the Cummins. LOL. The sound of the exhaust out of the stacks is definitely unmistakable! Then when I popped the hood for the tech to take a look -- he was pretty impressed with it -- a couple of the salesmen had to walk over and take a look. They didn't know what to say, but just looked at it and had a look of awe on their face. The whole thing was pretty priceless really.

I did manage to get some miles on it this afternoon and evening. It's not much, but I got about 50 miles on it just driving around town. I figured out how to feather the throttle just right so it will actually shift through all the gears. I got it out on the highway, found out top speed is about 72 MPH with the RPM's maxing out at 2K right now. That turbo whistle when on boost is amazing...think semi truck as you go by them on a hill and they are spooled up on the turbo. The other thing I noticed is how quiet this engine is while cruising. With the 7.3, if I had a passenger with me, you really had to speak up loudly to have a conversation. I took someone along for a ride this evening and when we were out on the highway, you could talk normally and have a conversation. That is going to be a welcome change.

Hopefully the tech will figure out something in the morning and get rid of that RPM issue. I tried to get the Smarty ordered today, but in my haste to get to the Dodge dealership, I forgot my phone at the house and ended up missing the call from the guy who I need to order the Smarty from. If he calls me over the weekend, I'll get it ordered, otherwise it will be Monday.

Edit: LOL Mike. Looks like we were thinking the same thing.

Any diesel tech worth his salt won't have to open the hood to KNOW what the deal is.

Wouldn't you immediately know, just from the sounds of things, when he drove up?
