Glad to see that you got it working finally! All the loose ends just about tied up, huh... I dont think you would cause any problems putting it on 9 or 10 and going for a quick spin... I dont think youre injecting that much fuel that would wash down the cylinder walls in just a few minutes. What you need is to run it hard, albeit at a lower setting, boost and compression is what seats the rings into the cylinder walls. Hell im putting my engine in this coming weekend and then dynoing it the following day, lol.

I don't recommend this, but do as you please. Some say drive it like you stole it, some say break it in. I say break it in with some spirited runs. Of course the engines I have broken in were gassers so what do I know?

It takes how long to break in a diesel, what 50,000 miles? Say 10,000 on the lesser side? No way. Break it in like you're going to drive it. Im not busting my *** for the past two weeks and the next one, paying outrageous shipping charges to get this ready for a dyno event and not dyno it, and wait 6 fricken months till spring to dyno it. A spirited run for me would consist of something like a dyno run minus the straps and the machine.

Hijack over.

I hear you and know what you are up to Kris. Good luck at the brawl. Looking forward to the numbers. Good luck.

BTW, what is the rush besides getting the truck back up and running?

Jeremy congrats on finally having the full power of the Cummins and be able to call the job complete. Nows its time for more mods after the bank account recovers

Kris good luck on the dynos lets see some good 7.3L numbers.

You can bet I will be taking the truck all week. With as much driving as I have to do this coming week, I may just get the 1000 miles on it during the week.

Not yet. I wanted to get the RPM issue figured out first. I'm going to run by the AC shop on Monday before I head out of town and hopefully drop the lines off so I can pick them up on Wednesday when I get back. Once the lines are made and bolted in place, I'll need to get the new evaporator and orifice tube installed, which I'll do right before I get it charged to keep moisture out of the new evaporator. I'll have to check with my buddy at the dealership to see when he can do it, since he'll be doing it off hours and at no charge to me.

I'm actually working on getting something together. One of our admins, IBAdrian, asked me to make an article out of this thread, to be posted up here on FTE.

Almost all the loose ends are tied up. Factory temp gauge still not working, but I diagnosed that today. Wires to the sensor have power, so I checked resistance on the sensor and it's completely open. I think I just need to get a new sensor. Only thing after that is waiting on PCS to finish up their tach box.

As for running it hard in the upper settings, I'm going to wait until there's at least 1000 miles on the engine. Just don't want to chance it. Others may do it differently, but that's how I'm going to do it. I am going to run it hard on a lower setting though to try and help seat the rings.

That's my plan, Mike. Spirited runs. Accelerate somewhat aggressively when taking off or merging onto the highway, vary RPM, etc...

Cummins official statement is full break in takes 20K miles. From what I'm seeing on the forums, it's taking anywhere from 10K to 30K for guys to have blowby and oil consumption go down, which indicates the rings are fully seated.

Really, there's only one more mod I want to do to this thing...the dual CP3 pumps. Before I put the engine in the truck, I thought about all the mods I'd want to do to this thing, and did everything I could afford to do. My current list of mods includes, injectors, head studs, exhaust manifold, turbo, intake manifold, grid heater delete, and fuel system. The only thing left is the dual pumps. Later on, in a year or two, I'll start looking into compound turbos, but there's just not much left for what my goals are.

Now, after getting the chance to drive this thing around a bit this evening with full use of the RPM range, all I can say is holy ****! This thing is insane. Even with the Smarty on a lower power level, it pulls hard! It honestly feels like it's got more power than the 7.3 ever had, and I've still got about 175 more HP available to me in programming. I can tell that I'm going to like this engine.

Congratulations, again, Jeremy! You know how much I love your new setup, and it's great to hear that it's up and running at 100% now.

Friggin' awesome.

I had forgot you didn't put the Dual CP3s on there they run about 2400-2700K don't they? I think Scott Countryman from the Diesel Power Challange had a very similar set up to yours and put down some impressive numbers but he also had an Allision backing it with a few more gears. Have you thought of adding a gear venders OD for a 5th gear?

Its great to see you have a powerhouse going on now that makes twice the power and twice as reliable

Twice the power, yes. But only just as reliable at best, certainly not twice...

Jeremy, Great job on the swap. It has made me realize how much extra effort for planning that you have to put in for this type of undertaking. You have been great at documenting this and it will be helpfull for me in the future(after I put another 430,000 mile on mine. It only has 72,600.). This is definately somthing I will do if my 7.3 gives up the ghost. I look foward to a comprehensive write-up when you get time. thanks and congratulation!!!
