You would have loved that pup Morris. Big friendly fella. I'm happy he waited for the truck door to open before he jumped up. While I love the animals, claw marks in clear coat isn't a love of mine.
Nice day here, only -6 and no wind. I sure would like to be on an acreage with a couple of big dogs running around, a few cats and a few chickens and maybe a beef cow.
Since you like animals, Sherm, you would probably really enjoy owning some horses. We have eight of them and they are great to be around. I no longer ride but they are just like members of our family, so they get to stay for the rest of their days.
A basement reno may not be your favorite job but at least you`ll get to spend some time with the animals Sherm.
My pup does the claw in the paint thing once in a while if I don`t stop her in time, she`s a slow learner.
For a while I fed a a out dozen or so beef calves over the winters Colin, it was hard to part with them knowing what fate awaited them.
I also boarded horses one winter Bridgeford, they were also hard to part with come spring.
Stay warm John, we`re ok for a few more evenings before the big freeze hits.
I find that people that keep animals for reasons other than food and income are generally better, more genuine people. More laid back, easy going, and seem happier as well. Bridgeford you should post some pics of your horses
Morris, I find it tough to think of the butchering process also, but have to realize that some of these animals were placed on this earth for our sustenance. While I would have difficulty butchering my own animals that I have raised, I guess one could find comfort in knowing that they lived a good life while reaching a harvest age. I'm looking for some Dexter/small frame cattle for our own consumption... My heart is already tearing thinking of the purpose. Unfortunately, steaks won't grow in the garden. For some reason, butchering chickens don't seem to affect me as would/will butchering my furry animals.
Sherm: Buy the cows and tape feather's to them. It won't be as painful. I am a real suck when it comes to butchering animal's. I used to watch my Baba do the chicken thing, and it would make me sick. I'm not to bad with fish. When I watch a TV show where they do a deer or something, I put my Taco chip's away, and change the channel. Have a great night guy's.
Morning boys. -20 out there with a -30 windchill. Great. Thanks for the picture Bridgeford!! How I wish you had just stepped out on your porch to take that yesterday Beautiful animals you have there!! There are a few small frame cattle breeds. Dexter, lowline, miniature Hereford, highland, belted galoways, longhorn, and I'm sure there are others. The key is to finding one that still has a good feed conversion rate and the ability to finish with some fat marble. From my research, some of them such as the longhorn are harder to finish and fatten up so people shy away from them. I'm not much for eating fat, so they would probably be fine for us. I realize that's where much of the flavor comes from but that's why hot sauce was invented. What did you guys do to Gerry? Did some high school girls kidnap him or something? Have a great day guys!! Happy Friday!!!
