So my first problem is that I have never seen how the stock headliner on these trucks looks when installed - mine is the only crew cab of this era that I have ever seen in person and not too many people show pictures of the headliner details that I need. So I was hoping somebody here had some nice pictures of their stock headliner (front, back, center) that can at least show me what I am shooting for.

Thanks,

What are you wanting to see? The outer edge trim is (basicaly) the same as a reg or sc. The difference is the trim piece that runs down the center (L/R), it is plastic and snaps onto the metal rib that is part of the roof support. I took the rear section of trim from a reg cab and modified it to use in place of the center plastic. To me the factory plastic looked cheap and out of place, don't know why they didnt do something like what I came up with.

Thanks, that looks nice! Is that a single header board or two pieces? I may try and do the same with the trim as you did.

Thanks, its the best i could come up with. the original plastic piece looked out of place to me. The board needs to be 2 pieces because of the way the center rib is made.

I like the 73-79 trucks but I know the 67-72 trucks are even more rare... and I like them just as well. I will be building a crew cab short bed 4x4 with a cummins in it. Here are the three trucks I have to start combining. Should I build a 70 crew cab or a 79 crew cab? Here are the pictures of what I have to work with.

I could use the 79 chassis and combine it with the 70 cab and 69 bed. That way I would have power disc brakes, power steering, dual fuel tanks, etc with the older body style. I'd like to hear your thoughts on which way would be best. Resale value always plays a role too.
Looks like a Bump side and Dent side build to me. HOWEVER, if I could do just one, I would do the bump side and put it on the 4x4 chassis. I am partial to the bumps!!!!

I would keep cruising in the dent while building the bump, then build the dent while driving the (new) bump.

If you read the ENTIRE thread and keep a large notebook handy to right down information you will have the answers to most any question you will eventually ask.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the advice. I have spent a few hours readin the posts and the information from everyone is great. I have some of the same issues that were already posted, like rusting through above the drip rail. I currently have five trucks i am workin on but my 77 crew is the most important one to me.

racetrack trim

I have the complete xlt racetrack trim on my 77 crew cab. Still trying to decide if i want to keep it and put it back on after the new paint job. I have a guy that is interested in it if i choose not to re install it. Can anyone tell me what the value of that trim package is worth?

Also remember to read in the 73-79 forum because these trucks are the same as a reg cab except for the mounting of the cab and a few other minor things.
