I believe, and I am only assuming here. But when I was working union, my pay, lets say her 60.00 per hour included benefits package. I really doubt she is taking home 60.00 per hour.
Lets hope this can come to an agreement soon. A strike is not good for anyone. I left my union job because of a strike that lasted 9 months.
I'd say they need to reassess their lifestyle......
Maybe, but I heard this about folks who are going to have a hard time when student loans go back into repayment.
“You should have no problem now!”
That sounds all fine and dandy at first, but I think about how my lot rent has only gone up the last few years, my insurance goes up for the RV (live in that for now) and trucks, tires didn’t get cheaper, gas didn’t get cheaper, my occasional chiropractor visit isn’t cheaper, work clothes aren’t cheaper, grocery store visits aren’t cheaper, electric bill isn’t cheaper…and I’m not marriage with kids and the mortgage and property taxes!
I really feel sorry for anyone that has an ordered vehicle being built now.
The union workers don’t have their attention on building a quality vehicle.
Who knows what may be produced
I think the $38/hr is pretty reasonable(that Ford is offering). I can see how doing the same task over and over can be tough. I have also heard that some of the plants don't have very good HVAC systems. Maybe throw that in the agreement.
However, pensions are a thing of the past. The younger generation is the one who pays for it.
I also heard one of the Union representatives saying how the start out pay is $15 something an hour. He said that is on par with fast food. I am not sure if that man has ever been inside an In N Out on Friday night, but those people are working. Really working, moving fast and efficient. Making not much more than the start out pay on the assembly line. You also need to consider that In N Outs are in states with a higher cost of living.
The assembly line doesn't move as fast as the pattie line. Makes me think $15 is okay starting wage.
In my line of work, I don't get payed every Friday. I get payed based on my output. The harder and faster I work, the more I get payed. I like the ability to control that. Which is why my Super Duty is important to me, and I depend on it. And if someone told me it would cost $10,000 less if it were assembled in Mexico, I would probably take the Mexican truck. Even if it had a horn off a Smart Car, and only played Spanish Music. (Maybe not the Spanish music)
Although I understand some people are different. And sometimes a steady $38/hr job doesn't sound to bad. I don't think they quite have it as bad as they think. This is a bigger problem than corporate greed. Nobody forced you to take an 84 month loan on a truck, or a 30 yr loan on a house. And if you think that doesn't contribute to Inflation, you are kidding yourself. IMO
So lets say that I research, investigate, work hard and invest all I have into a product to start a business.
Now you come along and choose to work for me. You really think that you should get equal profit for my hard work and investment? I don't think so!
I also do not think someone who never could go to college should be paying for someone else who could not afford to go to college.
When any union strikes, auto, rail, trucking, bread, any that you can name, the result has to be passed on to us the consumer in order for someone else to live better than me.
Somehow they do not understand that their strike also is costing them more money!
We will never be able to convince the union worker how bad it is on the rest of us.
I really feel sorry for anyone that has an ordered vehicle being built now.

With FORD having to shut down the Super Duty production line earlier this year due to quality build issues I’m not sure the UAW has or ever will make quality a top concern. It seems like the UAW is holding the automakers over the barrel for quality, attention giving labor or else pay the price with lower production & higher warranty claims. The image damage the UAW is bringing the big 3 will be huge IMO. I happily scraped off the UAW decals off my FORD’s. Getting rid of the assembled by hacks vehicles is next.
