Joe,
Get what you want in your building design/ layout/ door size and placement. Yes consider lift location. Might have to pay a little more but you will be happier for many days after its up and your in there working!
Not my shop but I like the more equal spans of the second design. Just looks stronger.
Regards,
Chris

I prefer the first design with the doors center left because it leaves more open space for other work/shelving/storage.
After research, I'm positive there will have to be another truss between the doors. So, my design will cost a bit more, but I will have another truss for added strength.
I found a company at the home show. We worked with them on a potential house remodel for my in-laws 1875 home. My daughter now owns it. They will be getting some install costs to me Monday.

Joe, wasn't the building planned out before the slab was laid?

Well not to much to update on this yet. It has been a nightmare. I'm using Steel Building Pros. I would not recommend them at all. They have delayed, can't answer basic questions and keep trying to find ways to increase the price.
With steel prices going through the roof, finding another vendor will be difficult and I most likely would never get any deposit back from these guys. They are supposed to get the ball rolling this week.

This company doesn't install the building and was no help in finding a builder. They actually suggested using Craigslist Gigs section advertise that I'm looking for someone. I would consider doing it myself, but I don't have a lift.

I am working with a company that we have dealt with before when we were considering remodeling my in-laws old house. They should have some info back to me in the next day or so. No one I have talked with is willing to do a labor only job. They insist on selling the building kit. My local guys hopefully will have a plan to me tomorrow. I went to a home show and asked one business. He said that he is about a year out on scheduling jobs. I figure he just didn't want to deal with me. If he was that booked, why would he set up a booth at a home show.

Here is my truck sitting pretty on my pad

Is there a limit on the building permit? Here, locally, there is a "start by" date and a given number of days to "finish by" or file for an extension. Which, of course, costs money.

Sorry to hear this...... Unfortunately these are not typically DIY set ups unless you can get a company to set the main trusses / structure, then the minor braces and sheeting could be done yourself, however, if you're going to need a crew to set the main structure then you may as well pay them to finish the whole job too and save yourself the hassle.

Same here in SoDak with skilled labor, even stick built housing is out 6-12 months depending upon the area, and all the crews who do steel building are tied up doing larger commercial jobs.

I feel for you.....too bad you can't tell the steel company to go pound sand and then do a stick build on the same pad.

Good luck, I hope things turn for the better for you soon.

Sorry to hear your difficulties. Unfortunately building is at record levels such that getting someone to erect your building will be a challenge. One issue that you can have with a separate building supplier and a building erector is if problems arise there is just a bunch of finger pointing at the other guy, perhaps one of the reasons that the supplier is not providing you with recommendations. At this stage I would be looking at renting a lift, trying to get 1 or 2 other guys and doing it myself. Last summer I did a stick built addition to my barn. I got my son to help me setting rafters, laying CDX and shingles on the roof.

I used Ameribuilt Steel for my kit I modified. They engineered my mods and sent it all on two large flatbeds, I had to unload it. Built 90% by my self. Took 3 years, a friend let me use his scaffolding, I used no equipment other then a come-along and large magnets to hold things. Mine is 4000 sq ft. counting the second floor. One thing I would recommend is once you get it up have it spray foam insulated, keeps it from sweating and makes it warm.

Well, enough of it is done that the daughter has been living in it for the last 2 years. Two large bedrooms, bathroom and Kitchen is done. the Living room ceiling is still just spray foam.

At least you have the kit purchased?
A buddy at work was just informed the building he priced out late last summer now costs twice what he was quoted with another price increase slated to hit next Monday.
He didn't commit and now he's chasing the budget again

Think about having a truckstock at your place , putting up the building would be part of it . You would be amazed at what 20 guys could do in a weekend

If I had time to make the 8 hour drive I could bring down a scissor lift. I'm booked until at least June.
