It's a little late to add water at this point. They are out there getting ready. The pumper truck is here and they are getting everything set.
We talked a little about a floor drain this morning. It's too late for that, but the concrete guy asked. It seems that a floor drain has to be connected to the sewer in my county. That would most likely add a couple thousand to the cost. Trenching a line through the trees I have back to the sewer line would be a mess.
I do have two lines stubbed in. One of AC power and another for whatever I need. I put a pull line in each of them as well. I will have pictures shortly.
Joe,
Exciting to get the building going up! Concrete work makes it start to really take shape! Have fun with your build project. And yes all the extras cost more and make more work too. BTDT!
Regards,
Chris
The previous owner has a water line and drain installed in my shop. But like with a few other items in the house they are questionable. First the drain just runs out the side of the building. He used the building to store his Class A RV so I'm assuming he only washed his RV in the building, the drain is way too small and has a plastic grate that wouldn't allow draining of anything else, at least I hope. The water he had run into the building is really convoluted. The hard piping comes out of the sunroom wall to a bib on the outside of the house. From there there is a garden hose that goes down into a large PVC pipe in the cement and runs to the pond pump housing and tees and goes off to the poll building, into the foundation and comes up in the wall. The only way to have water reach the pole building is to turn on the bib coming out of the house. The pole building wasn't insulated or heated so the only time you could have water coming into the building is in warmer weather. One of the other questionable plumbing schemes is for the former hot tub which I cut up and tossed out. The feed for the hot tube has multiple valves to allow softened and non softened water enter the hot tub with no check valves to prevent any of the used tub water from backing up into the drinking water system. There are other dicey things I've found in the five years since we bought the house. At least it seems the electrical system was done correctly.
Lots of progress today and he said they would be done tomorrow. got the slab poured and the will pour the driveway and sidewalk tomorrow.
First things first. My son was driving to Des Moines for work. He sent me this picture then called me. He said since I will have room, we need to get this and restore it. Since the color is similar to the truck, we could just paint them both the same color.
I like the way he thinks.

Here are progress pictures.
This picture brings back many memories for me. My brother owned a small concrete construction business. He did sidewalks, curbs, patios, basement floors and garage floors. I worked my last three summers of college and about two years after college. I also worked for him over Christmas break if he had indoor work. Very hard work but good money for me. We did lots of pours of this size except we didn't have 9 guys working on it. Maybe 5 or 6 guys. And we didn't have those fancy concrete pumps. The driver would chute it off the truck and fill our wheel barrows and then we'd have to push it where the straight edge guys needed it. That 5 gallon bucket of floats, trowels, and edgers was a common sight. The money I made sure did help pay for my college tuition.

Before I had a sink, I had a PVC pipe running down at an angle through a hole in the wall. It worked just as well for peeing.
If you did want a sink later, you could always make one that connects to a regular water hose. They sell those for fish washing stations, but a custom one wouldn't be too difficult. Put a bucket under it for the drain, or pipe it out through the wall.
When I bought into the business condo I would drive pass the site every day on the way home. It was fun to watch the progress. The condos were were prefabbed and hauled to the site on flatbed semi trailers and installed with a crane. They went up fairly fast. Once done the building felt huge but didn't take long to fill.
Tuesday they poured the driveway and sidewalk. Wednesday they came back to make the relief cuts.
I took the dog out Wednesday morning and discovered someone had drawn in my driveway. The builder was there and said the concrete was almost dry when they left. So they had to work hard and they did it with a rock.
It was an inappropriate drawing, so I won't show the picture. I was a bit miffed. It was close to a foot tall as well. My cameras don't turn on until 10pm, so it must have been done before then.
Fortunately my builder came back with some very wet concrete and covered it up. He said it may dry a different color, but anything is better than what was there. Another option would be to grind it down. Hopefully it won't come to that. I was very pleased with their effort to correct the issue. Since it will be cold for the next few days, they have covered the concrete and will leave it covered for a couple of days. They will then finish the dirt work around the driveway and shop.
At noon today it was 61 degrees. It is currently 27 with a wind chill of 14. It is so windy the Christmas tree at the governor's mansion blew over. I'm getting too old for these drastic drops in temperatures.
As a side note for hunters. Missouri had it first Elk hunt in modern history. Our Department of Conservation (where I work) brought Elk back to Missouri after they were hunted out of Missouri about 200 years ago.
We had a lottery and 5 hunters were drawn. They all got elk. https://www.therolladailynews.com/ne...auguralelkhunt
Bear hunting will most likely start next year. That will be very limited as well if it gets off the ground.
Great progress Joe. There’s always gotta be “That Guy” that has no respect for others. Our weather also has changed but by Saturday it’ll be 50! Crazy weather and year (2020). I for one will be glad to see it gone.
I'm excited about the pad and driveway getting finished up. Now there will be a bit of wait for the shop.
Yes, this weather is annoying . This morning the wind chill is 3 degrees, that's just not right. Gotta win the lottery so we can have a winter home in a nice warm climate.
Joe,
Awesome to have the building base in place! Not so good you have a neighbor that is not happy. You have a great start for the new year on getting the building up and enjoying it by spring/ summer! It all looks really good! Concrete will be there for a LONG time!

Chris
When you decide to get a lift , think hard and long about what you will use it for , two post are the best for brakes and suspension , but become a pain for other stuff , four post can be used for so many other things , just drive on no bending , has built in place to lay tools when working under car , can be used for gators, lawn mowers , tractors , golf carts . makes great workbench when empty , can be raised to chair height , saw horses, raise all the way up and hang parts for painting , great for loading things into back of pickup. I have a motor cycle stand that I bolt on and raise the bike to work on it . also have a small tire machine that I bolt onto it , that saves floor space as I can put it out in the shed when not using
On a lift, there are pro's and con's to each type. For working on a vehicle I prefer a 2 post which is why most repair shops are 2 post. For additional storage a 4 post is better. In any case either type is MUCH better than no lift. As indicated by DR you will find many additional uses for either type. For example my most recent project was a unibody car that I set up on a rotisserie I was on and off the rotisserie several times using the 2 post to set it up on the rotisserie. The 2 post was a big help. In my case the 4 post would have been a problem. Tuesday I will use my 2 post with slings to lift one of my boats (this winters project) off the boat trailer to mount on a large roll around cart, again a 4 post would not help and be a problem. I do agree with DR on the table function of a 4 post. A better arrangement than a sheet of plywood sitting on the 4 arms/pads of my 2 post which I do occasionally.
