If you ever drove a 13/18 speed transmission with a load, you can imagine just how well the 10 speed will work in the new SD. The target RPM will always be available no matter what speed the truck is going. It’s going to be almost perfect for the truck.
Without a load, you can also see what an improvement the 10 speed will provide for economy. Again, keeping the RPM in the target zone, which I am sure will be a very low RPM when the engine is unchallenged.
Its going to be a very nice rig to drive.

You guys are making it harder and harder to drop my order for a new 2019 F550, I may just need to wait until the 2020s are available in Aug or Sep.
The 1 thing I really do not like on the 2020 is the F150 like front end look. Ascetically much prefer the 17-19 SD look, its stout and seperates itself from the rest of line. In my opinion the 2020 is gonna be all about the tranny and the new gasser motor. If you want the 10 speed and or a monster gas motor then the decision is easy.
I owned a 10 Speed in my F150. Absolutely hated it. Banging shifts, clunky, never again till they work out all the bugs. Gears 7, 8, 9 and 10 were all overdrive so not sure how much gears 1-6 will improve drivability as they will basically be the same as they are now. It should shine when the truck is empty or not towing for fuel economy. But don’t forget, the truck is still a flying brick and aerodynamics is just as important as anything else.

I do pay attention to the looks of the grills and the general look of the trucks, but that is second to performance and economy. I have been spoiled with the HP and torque of the diesel 6.7 so I will looking hard at the 7.3 gas. The 2017 F350 DRW I have was built out to tow, based on my original plan to haul a 5th wheel after I retire this year. However that plan has changed and now we will be hauling a very large slide-in camper with a lot of cargo and possibly a trailer with side-by-side or snow mobiles. So based on weight needs I and looking at the F-550 C&C. I was going to buy a 2019, but with all the changes for 2020 and the 10 speed I'm thinking of waiting. If the 7.3 mated with the 10 speed can offer the power, I may go that way to minimize the up front cost of the diesel and the over all maintenance cost, I don't care about resale values because I'll most likely keep this next truck a very long time (so says the wife). 😁😏

When the specs come out on the 7.3/10 speed there will still be new 2019s for sale. It might be worth the wait to see the numbers on the new set up and then decide. I thought my 2017 would be my last truck but I don't know now!

[QUOTE=xxxsherpa;18535505 I thought my 2017 would be my last truck but I don't know now![/QUOTE]
That has been said many times by many men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the super duty is more f150 ever since 2017 and will continue to be unless the SD gets its own cab which i doubt. it will be f150 update then SD similar to f150 update and on and on. 15 150, 17 sd,18 150, 20 sd, 21 150, 23 sd...
the 2020 wont be available till december earliest
i think the 10 sp torqshift will be a completely different animal and much better 100% developed by ford. it will be more heavy duty and not made for a bunch of different applications and vehicles.
A year after the 10 speed is released people will be bitching because they can’t tow in 10th gear. It’s more of an advertising gimmick than anything else unless the only reason you buy a truck is to cruise the interstates.
While I'm not in the market for a new truck(my half-ton serves me fine), I think this new 7.3 is going to be an awesome engine. I love diesels, but I also love beastly V8 gas engines. I'm shocked that Ford is releasing this, honestly. They've always been the first to drop displacement, dropping from 5.0 and 5.8 to 4.6 and 5.4 in the 90's, and then from 4.6 and 5.4 down to 3.5 and 5.0, and down to 2.7. They've eliminated V8's from their full-size SUVs, ditched the V10 in the SD trucks, ditched V6's in their cars and the Ranger, and done everything in their power to frustrate the "no replacement for displacement" crowd.
I'm not fond of the new front end for 2020. I thought the 2017-19 grille looked far better, across all the trims. I'm also not a big fan of the 2018+ F-150 grilles in most trims.
Also, i didn't realize the E-Series is still around. Somebody earlier asked if that picture was from a van or an F-600. It was the E-series cutaway chassis. Apparently they're still making them, and they're refreshing it for 2021 and offering the 7.3.
Ford re-using the 7.3L displacement has already begun to frustrate search results for the 7.3L diesel.
Google has a way of prioritizing current and future commercial products for sale, by the largest corporate players who pay for SEO. Now the first page search results for Ford 7.3L are dominated by gas engine pundits, press releases, and power prognostications. If Ford wanted to bury the memory of its former 30 year marriage with International, then Ford calling its biggest, baddest, newest gas engine for Super Duty pick ups a 7.3L certainly did the trick.
