So here’s a question I haven’t been able to find the answer to. I know tail shaft should be about 3* down. But what about the carb. Should it be level or does it sit in a slight angle as well??
here I have it level front to back. And side to side.
I;m just reading through your thread for the first time, fullyford. I's looking great. Those Mercurys sure are cool! I do have one question. What did you use to set your pinion angles? That will play a crucial role in how your motor and tranny is mounted, if you intend to move it.
Little more progress. Got the engine and trans finally mounted. Used a laser to center the engine and then leveled it at the carb. Cut cut out pieces to make engine mounts. For the trans I reused the original engine mount. Cut trimmed and it worked out perfect.
Picked up a hydro boost out of a mid 90’s mustang for my power brakes, $30 from a junk yard can’t go wrong with that. Will have to change out the the reservoir to one that sits level. Now to try and figure out how to mount this to the frame.
I think the next step is rear shocks now. I already have the air shocks up front that came with some parts I bought so I might s well do air in the back. I was looking at ride tech shock waves, but then I found the Firestone 9000 tapered air spring. Not sure if I still need to run a shock absorber with the Firestone bag or not.
I'll chime in on the air ride. I feel that you almost HAVE to air ride the back, or you're just not following thru. With that said, you will (or at very least should) use shocks with air bags. An air bag, or air spring as they are also called, are just that....Air springs. Granted, they are progressive in their nature, but they don't have any way of dampening themselves. You need a shock for that. Personally, I prefer using a bag with a shock, rather than the shockwaves. It's a little cheaper, and actually works a little better. Shockwaves do look clean and compact though. They are definitely the easier way out. However, you already have shock mounts on your 4 link. You would only have to add the bag mounts, and it looks like you have plenty of room for that. For what it's worth, I used the Ridetech cool ride air bag kit on my truck, along with the adjustable Ridetech/Fox shocks and couldn't be happier.
Little more progress. Made some mounts for that bags and got them welded in. Went behind the axle and now wondering if I should of went in front. Ordered some QA1 TS403 shocks for it as well.
