so I installed the console today. It was from f150 2018. It has two USB ports inside the sliding tray center console. I unplugged my existing media USB line from my old dash and unplugged this same line from the HMI unit behind radio. I then used the f150 usb cable to plug into HMI unit behind radio (where old USB was) and then plugged it into the USB hub inside the sliding tray in new console. This should’ve given me two USB media ports inside the tray. However, there is no power to console at all but it looks great lol. I will slide it back and replace the two USB port with the media port that was in my truck originally so that I will have at least one media port working. I used the plug under the jump seat to plug into my new console but nothing works with it ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

Yes replacing the side vent trim pieces have to be replaced so that the console can slide into front dash. The standard pieces do not have the cut out for the slot.

I don't think the pinouts are the same on that console. I helped a buddy with an F150 console and we just ran 12v switched power to the lights and 12v hot to the cig adapter so he has one port he can charge off of with the truck on or off. I looked, halfheartedly, for a wiring diagram to figure out which pins needed to be swapped but couldn't find it for the SD and the F150 to figure it out. He didnt really care because he wanted that hot plug anyways. FYI, the light in the console is always on with the truck, there's no switch there. The front cubby has a switch so the light turns off when you close the door.

Couple of questions did you move you heater controls? A 19 has the heater-A/C controls below the radio controls, you appear to have no radio controls in the center panel there? Also did you replace these the vent panels circled in red?

  • The heater controls moved due to I upgraded my radio head unit from the Sync 4.2" to a Kenwood 7". That required a new dash bezel. iDataLink's FTR1 kit. That was unrelated to the console install
  • Yes, the HVAC vent bezels need to be replaced with those with the console cutouts. These part #s

    • HC3Z-2504339-DA - Dash Bezel LH (Armor) $40

The side panels are different between the console and center seat.

the front harness on my console just needed me to run a few grounds and +12V wires. That made all the power points work as well as the light in the very front compartment of the console.

Brandon,
Can you help me get my console to have power like yours does? I have the F150 2018 console, but nothing lights up even though the plug fit perfectly with my 2019 SD. Do you have pictures of how you wired yours up? I want the lights to work and cig lighter to work in console.
Thanks,

You had two plugs on the console right? The connector at the floor plugged in directly for me, but I didn’t have the connector to match the one at the front of the console where it meets the dash. What I ended up doing is using a multimeter to determine which wires are ground and then assumed the other wires needed 12v. I ran a ground and a separate switched 12v to a distribution block and then terminated all the wires accordingly

Yes, I had the two plugs on the console. One kind of on the side and then one large one out the front. The one at the floor plugged directly in with perfect fit. Do you have a pic of how you created a distribution block? Also, did your USB outlets work on your console - I removed the USB cable from my HMI unit and tried to use the USB cable from the console but the end that connects to the module was turned differently and would not allow fitment (i believe it the cable was a right angle and this would not work). A picture or any guidance is much appreciated, I do not need everything to work -- just would like the console lights to work and at least one USB cable.

I bought a fuse block to use as a distribution block. Let me see if I can get pics...

For the USB connection, I swapped to the USB module that came with my truck. It required me to make the hole in the console larger though.

Whoa baby, I spot checked a couple of the parts from FordPartsGiant plus others and they have increased mightily from when these prices were listed in May 2018. As of June 2019, some have almost doubled in price!

Yup...looks like they caught on to what we are doing. I haven't seen a center console for under $700 on Ebay since this thread started (except for a couple that looks like they've been sitting outside in the weather for weeks)

I really wish I would have read this thread to the end before I bought my truck yesterday, thought It wouldn't be too expensive to replace the seat with a console based on the previous posts so I settled for the booster seat. I'm cool with a free market but raising the prices like that in a years time is total bull****.

Im about to buy all the parts listed. I’ve looked and looked online for a console and they are $800-1000 now.

Would rather build one from the parts list and it’s all new and shiny.

Thanks to H20camper for the write up and helpful info.
