Latest installment on Step Mom: They gave her some little laptop thing she couldn't read the screen on :-(
So told her to just go in and look at what they had and pick what is closest to what was lost... Well 2 things happened: they "found" her Mac, and yup it was pretty crushed on the way to being recycled. But second, and I really have to hand it and give kudos to Apple -- they are giving her a big new tower system with an even bigger monitor than she had! And they will extract any files she needs from the almost destroyed unit brought in to be checked...
Some times there is a silver lining... Wow, Apple, you rock

unlike in the old days Mac and Windows sub software (like the stuff you install on it) can be used on both alot of times.. you dont need to buy the products for each operating systems like we did in the 80's and early 90's.. Mac also keeps their core software locked down pretty well.. where windows is pretty open..
i get a laugh anytime i get calls telling me my vehicle warranties are about to expire, or that my home insurance policy has lapsed, or that the non-existant most current phone on the market that "i must have in my possession" assumed by the callers has been cracked and needs to be remotely accessed... pfft..
I sort of like my Mac. I spend 4 days trying to figure out if I had a bad hard drive, bad power supply, need a single crystal power cord. Turned out to be a bad iCloud file that I had to search deep on the net to find some guy who had the same issue. On Windows, I would have had this in a few hours. But I'm still learning.
But for me it's a platform that I am moving to because of the iPhone, iPad and videos. Although just a few days ago I would have sold this cheap.

I'd have to go back years to figure I could tangle with Linux (too many brain cells shot)
I just watched the original Matrix the other night, kind of reminds me of switching to the Juice...

That and a couple pieces of software don't play nice on the Mac OS.
On a side note, air quality still sux but containment of the Carr Fire is now 90%! To bad that two new fires have started and closed 36 West at Platina and 299 East at Adin.
I'm still halfway between Windows and Mac. 180 degrees from my Mac is my XP, and I'm still using both. I'm ambidextrous, I've have both platforms, so I'm just confused all around. But I'm to the point where I have to think of what keys to use in XP.
I paid high for this used Mac $1500, 27" Mid-2011/16GB/1TB plus 250GB HD/full keyboard. But it came partitioned for both platforms and with Office and full Adobe suite on both sides, and Final Cut Pro on the Mac side. I did a dumb thing and upgraded to High Sierra, which lost my FCP usefulness which I hadn't learned yet. The software bundle let me accept the price in my mind.

Took us 10 hours of gnarly driving...So I do hate that there are more fires; but they should shut 36 until they finish it IMO...
ok, just had to get that off my chest...

One cool thing I found out recently is there is a Linux distro for Mac hardware. I may be trying that soon.
Jack what FCS do you have? I was told by an Apple support tech to not go past FCS 7 as Apple dumbed it down after that point.
Linux or start Banana Computing might be the option. I find it scary that so many places and imbedded hardware still have XP Pro.
All the clone IDS I know of runs best on XP Pro. They say it will run on 7 % 8 But I think you have to do a little tweaking to make it
work without using VMware.
