Best to take pictures if you don't have a manual book that shows your setup. so you'll get them back together right. Then print it out in a larger pictures so can keep for later times if needed.
When, I replaced the shoe to backing plate springs, I could not re-hook the little Red springs by holding them with wire cutters as they were a lot stronger tension wise, so had to order the correct spring tool to get them fastened back on the shoes.

It sure made reassembling them easier to get back together faster too.

On my '68 there is a L and R too.. I helped on a friend's '72, and they were virtually the same part. Easy to change the wheel cylinders. We did remove the rubber cups, and lube the cylinder walls with brake fluid before assembly. Just a precaution as they prolly had been in the box for awhile.. Couldn't hurt, might help. ? When bleeding, start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, and work your way in. A pressure bleeder helps, but there you go with special tools again.. Just get someone to pump the brakes for you, while you open and close the bleeder. I also have used a small piece of tubing, and put one end over the bleeder, and the other into a cup with some brake fluid in it. Watch for the bubbles to stop when pumping, and the submerged end keeps air from coming back into the wheel cylinder... This also saves some mess under your truck.. I use one of those large paper clips, the black folding kind, to hold the hose to the cup/jar/can or whatever you use.. It just keeps it all in place while pumping..

Good information El Rey, and you might want to start thinking of a Kingdom position for our new "Squire in training", as '72 is new to the Bump Kingdom..
Nice photos Rich, and I noticed that on your wheel cylinder, the rubber cup is not seated in the grove on the left end of the wheel cylinder. I sure hope you did not button 'er up that way... By now, you would probably have some drips if you did...

Oh, I use a pair of vice grips, and a strong arm to attach that spring. Clean wheel though.. love'n it..

Even after working in a brake shop for 6 mos. 90% of all the brake work was on cars and did not really need the fancy spring tool then.
And now days on the down hill run over the hill just to get moving early ever morning a Oxycodone helps me to keep moving a few times a day if, I don't over work my body the day before. Also helps a little with the foot nerve pain from diabetes/
PS, I ROLL BACK THE CUP TO SHOW THE IT WAS LEAKING Notice it's wet

Dang Rich, just reading about your ailments, makes me feel my age. Quit it.. and you too ***Head.. Hang in there guys, I do not want to be the only or the oldest 'Geezer' in the kingdom. But now you guys have me planning a trip to Napa for the brake tool for that blankety blank spring. Now that we broached the subject, I know for sure that I will need one...
