I will get a ground strap and do as you say. What was happening is that I was getting readings all over the place, but they would settle to anyway between .5 and .2 ohms. Still, I should think they should start off at somewhere around .2 at least and stay there.

Thanks for the information regarding the red wires! That makes life easier. Waiting for the diode. Hopefully, that will do the trick as far as the IAC operation is concerned.

You should get a steady reading, something just above 0.2 ohms. Dig your leads in well to be sure you have good contact.

I highly recommend you attach a ground strap on the closest nut or bolt to the O2. This is why thousands of good O2's were replaced, and why the industry added ground wires to the sensor, they added 2 before it was resolved.

Your junkyard ECA may run rough for the first 10 miles, you will have to re-do your Idle setting. But, do that when you get back from your run.

Does not matter what red IAC wire you use, the both go to the same place.

I would still add the strap, but nothing wrong with 0.5 ohms.

Reminder to photograph the lable on your junk-yard-dog computer and post.

Rule number 2, fix all known errors before checking codes.

You can thank the other lads for posting schematics & drawings that I used to help with that Red wire.....

You know, inquiring minds want to know what happens when it rains next. So at least turn it on and report on the dry-on fuel pump run time.

No problem. I probably did more than I should have today and am feeling it all over. Tomorrows a new day. I'll pull the computer, take a pic of the label and send it. I'll also report on the fuel pump time. Piece of cake! Inquiring minds who have spent oodles of time helping me have a right to know!!

Here it is! ESTF-12A650 - S1B - GS1

Bt the way, it rained last night and is really damp out this morning. Started right up!!!

I want to test it out a couple times, but it appears it was the ECM all along with regard to the fuel pump running so long. Good call!!

I would open it up and check the caps while it is out to make sure it does not go bad in the very near future.

Already put it back in, but I can pull it again. Caps? Do you mean capacitors? How would I check those?

I apologize for going quiet on you. This is a mute point here but to answer your question, yes, I am able to perform self-test with my new computer.

It may also be worth noting that I have experienced this original poster's problem with the new computer (pump runs for a very long time). So far it's only happened twice and for the life of me I can't reproduce it. I never experienced the problem with the original computer. I'm not sure if those two points are related.

No reason to disassemble your computer for the moment. Take it for a run, pull your codes, and go from there.

You could introduce some damage by disassembling. If your CAPs or anything else is damaged, it will show up in operation or via code reporting.

For what it's worth, as far as I can tell, this is what my 85 5.0 EFI replacement computer looks like. It is not what my original computer looked like. My replacement computer appears to be a newer make than the original.
