To hell with that chainsaw, I'da been at that pond Unless it's a Lagoon
I haven't heard Ka'Bluey in about 3 weeks, and truthfully wasn't sure if he'd even start after setting this long. But, he lit right on off, and I don't think that tired ol' 400 spun around even two times and he was running
I really need to get him out and stretch his legs a bit.
After Ka'Bluey set dormant for 3 weeks or so, I did climb in after dinner and pumped the pedal three times, crossed my fingers and anything else that I have that will still let me have the say so. And he fired right up. That isn't what normally happens between he and I. Usually, I'd get that sound of a dead battery, or, he will crank, but not long enough to get him running.
It was a big moment for us..... You had to be there
Yea I started to go fishing but I had some motivation today so I stayed with cutting trees up. Got to get it cleared around like I want it, some Lilly pads have came back this year but not as many. Really need to go ahead and get a couple grass carps to help clean it up some more.
I'm wanting to start snagging some 351m/400 parts, for when I do rebuild a fresh engine for Ka'Bluey. I found these valve covers on "the list" and the guy wants $225 for the pair, but I remember getting them for a lot less, and yes that was a few years, or maybe a couple of decades ago.
Anybody know exactly where the regs max out on with a regular plate. I was thinking 9000 lbs, but now I'm wondering if it's 6000 lbs. I did find that the fine was 200 plus 2 dollars for every 100 lbs over. Putting me at 4000 lbs over with my combination, I'm not really looking forward to that fine.
You are allowed up to 3000 overage(of registered weight)up to 9000lbs for recreation only, Camper or boat. A flat bed trailer used for recreation would be if-fey, depending on the officers mood and interpretation. Anything over 9000lbs has to have enough license to cover total weight regardless of recreation or commercial. It might be best to CYA.
Keep in mind>>>>If you're going to an event that participants get any kind of reimbursement or prize money/gift>commercial...If you're hauling a vehicle for a friend and only getting money for fuel>commercial.
The way it's always been explained to me is, a regular tag is 4000 pounds. Recreational is a boat/RV, however I've claimed the truck as recreational and been fine before aswell. Typically they don't mess with someone hauling a single truck/car. I didn't have any issues when hauling both trucks on a 40' trailer when we went to SC either and we passed several DOT officers.
So I have a tag that is weighted but looks like normal. It's weighted to 6k. However on top of that they give a 3k window. However if you are over the total 9k, then that 3k adds to the fine. The original tag is based on the DMV's Shipping weight. My truck weighs in at 4800 according to there data, which means with 1 person I'd be over the 5 k weighted tag, which is why minimum they gave me a 6k.
This is where it get's confusing.
Standard is 4k I guess.
Weighted 5, 6, and 7 k tags look the same as a standard tag.
Above 7 is considered commercial and has to have a different tag. This tag says weighted.
Ok so no big deal right? Just run on down to the DMV and get the updated tag. So I asked the lady what do I need to take with me.
"Oh just this form" was the answer.
"Great So I don't need proof of insurance or anything else, like registration"
"Oh it would probably be good to take those too, since they will need to give you a new tag"
"So then I'll need to take my old tag as well, then"
"Oh yes, you'll have to turn that in"
"Well will I need a State Inspection as well?"
"Hmm, I don't think so, they'll let you know when you get there though"
"Ma'am so you saying I need to take these documents and tag to the DMV, and if they decide to tell me at that time I need an inspection, I'll need to go back home, get the truck, go get an inspection and then go back? Why can't you just tell me now if I'll need to have one?"
"well I don't believe so, but they will have to tell you there if you need one."
So I will see tomorrow I guess how the lady at the counter interprets what I want to do...
I'd go get one anyway, if I wasn't trying to get on the road as early as possible... This is going to cut into my fishing time as it is...

Josh, unless things have changed...just take in your current tag/registration and tell them that you'd like to up the weight rating. The registration month will not change. They will calculate the remaining registration yearly fee for the amount that you request then just pay them, get your new tag and you should be on your way.
I down graded mine a couple of years ago from 14,000 to 8,000 since my son doesn't have the race team anymore. I still have the same weighted tag. I forgot that I did that and we pulled the travel trailer to OBX last year and we had to be close to 15,000 CGVW...

Good Luck!!!
This.
No new inspection required, besides brandnew vehicles typically don't need a inspection for the first 2 years. Atleast they don't in Carteret/Craven county's.

I carry 17000 on my F350, the truck with driver and a half tank of fuel weighed like 7700 pounds. So figure close to 8500 with 2 people full tank of fuel and random stuff for racing jack/battery charger and so on. My 20' flatbed weighs 3k pounds and I figured Ol'blue is probably pushing the scales at 5k so I figured I was at 16.5k ish.
Hauled to SC twice loaded like this though...
It was 68' long and I'd bet pushing 23k or better.
Well, you guys were right. I worried over nothing. So it took 15 miinutes after I got inside and I have a commercial weighted tag now. Good for 12 K. I doubt I'll ever hit that weight, but if I do, well, I'll deal with that another day.
Got a few things done around the house this weekend, unfortunately couldn't burn the huge pile of limbs do to the wind but maybe next weekend.
I got my new tach in Ol' Blue, also got a new fire extinguisher in and mounted. Got it running pretty decent but unfortunately a freeze plug let go this afternoon so I need to get that changed out before the race Saturday. Other than that it's as ready as it is going to get.
Got a new fire pit built today also to use for get togethers, hope to put it to work May 7th for the wife's birthday party.
Even got a few flowers planted in the big pot by the steps to the house.
