I was going to take the wifey for a ride tonight but when she opened the passenger side door she asked me, "why is there water on the floor"? I walked around the truck and looked at the floor and then looked under the dash and told her "it's a leaky heater core, no ride tonight".
Hell Yeah! Congrats on the first drive! Bummer about the heater core, is it a new one? Hopefully that's an easy fix. She looks great, Gavin!!
Wow!! Nice. Congrats on the test drive. Looks and sounds GREAT!
Ok, I'll razz ya.........................."all this top notch work and you left an old nasty, wore out heater core in the truck??" Ah, geez o pete man.
Mine made the 650 mile round trip to PA and back last weekend.
It performed Flawlessly. Pulls the hills great now. Really tickled with it. Only problem was my air wipers quit on me coming home(it rain basically the WHOLE trip there and back) when I hit the Ohio border. Seems a brass plug came loose on the wiper motor and let too much air escape and they wouldn't sweep. Ugh, but simple fix when I got home. I averaged 9 mpg which is about 1 mpg better then the original motor.
Ok, back to the previously schedule program..............
Nice ride Ftrain... is that a '52 Mack, or IH? Either way, its a classic... For awhile, I had a '72 narrow nose Pete, with a 318 Jimmy (8-71) with a 5 & 4.. pulled a 50 ton goose neck low bed... hauled some big Ol' D-8's and 988 loaders. Never found anything too high, wide & heavy that I couldn't haul.. Got a weight ticket for 118K lbs... hauling a hollow 11ft redwood log... I told the cop that it was an "Organic Culvert, headed to the National park. He just gave me the ticket and told me to get the hell off his beat..
Sorry for the late reply, I hosted a poker game last night and was working outside all morning until it started raining.

Thanks Randle! The F100 won't be needing that core anyway.

Thanks Gary, I just got started dumping the water out of the radiator.

Thanks for the complements! When I first got the truck and drove it there were no leaks. The heater plenum was about the only thing on the truck I didn't disassemble.

I'm glad you trip went well. That is one cool rig!
I deserving some razzing! It would have been a hole lot easier when everything else was removed from the dash.....and the seat was out.
Like when I was doing the wiring.

Fall of 2001 when I first brought it home: Local towing company owned it for many years, and they had a fleet of B models.
It went through lots of changes in the last 15 yrs. Lots of upgrades(air ride, bunk, air conditioning, air steering and last winter it got a new motor). Still not the prettiest thing on the road, but someday.

There is lots of other thing pictures I have from the projects but I don't want to fill up Gavin's project with my "off topic" stuff.

No problem, you can post as much as you want. The stretch thread is way cool. What happened to the bunk?
This was easier than I thought it would be.
Pic of aforementioned "old nasty, wore out heater core"....
....and the new heater core out of the F100 parts pile.
Looks great Gavin !
Glad you had it out for a spin.
The heater core on my 84 did the same thing, no warning and out of the blue.
Instant gusher. Usually you get the.... hey whats that haze on the inside of the windshield....... LOL
It is only like 8 screws to get the heater core out of these trucks it is almost stupid easy. You don't even want to think what it takes to get one out of a new F150.
I will get some more pictures of the Mack posted later.
First, kudos to you Gavin. I have another heater core if you want, as I have no use for one in Baja. My AC takes the space anyway.
FT, hanging out in my shop is a near perfect Mack nameplate in the old chrome script if you'd like it. Price is right..Free. I will post photos, after I get home to Baja.

Ahh, well, that is a story from last year about this time. Not one of my more proud moments. Going to York, PA for the annual ATHS convention(truck show), it rained most of the way(kinda sounds familiar huh?). Got off the pike in Carlisle, PA and headed south towards York. On a county 2 lane, just damp road, slowed for a light and lost it. I just tapped on the brake, the rear axle locked up and I couldn't save it. My trailer isn't heavy enough on the pin and you have to be very careful(I typically am). Jack knifed it around and whacked the bunk with the trailer. Luckily I didn't hit anything or anyone else. Stopped in the grass on the side of the road. I got it straightened out and made it to the show...just a little worse for wear. I've fixed the trailer but still trying to get the bunk finished. I have it half cut apart and my buddy doing the aluminum fab work hurt his hand and couldn't finish it before my trip last week. Had to pull it off for now. Hope to get it back on soon.
Had a blast and could really turn into another money pit kinda hobby. Now with MORE power I could really make it pull. But can't afford to hurt it as I use it to pull my race trailer.
