When I got the truck it had "car" paddle mirrors.....yuck. I snagged some West Coast Jr. mirrors from ebay and cleaned them up.

I was going to fill the holes from the previous mirrors, and repaint the doors but I hate dealing with body shops so I decided to make some custom lower brackets to match the holes and wear pattern on the door. I hope it doesn't look too stupid.

I got a sheet of 3/32 tk. 304 SST and cut out the blanks.

That stuff is a PITA to bend.

Filing square holes was loads of fun.....not!

New rubber washers from a sheet of Buna-N.

I made sure to coat the raw edges of the hole prior to assembly.

I put a rubber gasket under each bracket.

Ready for installation.

So what do you think? Do the lower mounts look like crap?

I love what you did here. I am in the same boat as you... went from car mirrors BACK to the original Jr. West coast mirrors on my 4x4 shortbed.

Any chance you would be able and willing to recreate a pair of those lower brackets you fabbed? No need to poke the holes, I can do that. If no I understand.

I would rather take a beating then have to make those brackets a second time. My only suggestion would be to use 16ga 304 stainless. It will bend mucho easier. Just use the mirror base to start the template and have the mirror connected to the upper mount to get an idea where the pivot hole for the lower bracket needs to be located.

Understandable. Thanks for the pointers. So are you sayinng it would be easier to just have the holes filled and doors painted?

If you are going to have the truck painted, then yes, weld up the holes and drill new holes for the lower bracket.
The only reason I made those brackets is I'm not going to paint mine any time soon.

It was so nice to meet you and your wife. I appreciate the truck photo album and getting to ride in that awesome truck of yours. Pictures do not do it justice, it looks way better in person.

Now that is an Epic Picture if I've ever seen one. Color me jealous I wasn't there. Two of the Men from this Kingdom that have just as big O' heart as their hands are talented. When you two shook hands did the clouds part and the Sun shine? (for once I'm being serious)

Jeff: Thanks for the kind words, it would have been nice for you to have been here to. It is nice to share ideas with someone as detail oriented as Gavin. I like the idea of building a second bump to use as a driver, I just might have to build a bigger garage.

Thanks for the confidence Gary, but it's more like the pro and the apprentice.

It was raining when I left home and sunny when I got there.

2x on a GTG with Jeff, Phoenix in January sounds good to me.

Sounds like a plan! I'll start looking for trucks.

If you are really good at TIG welding you might want to have bucket handy, the pics below might make you sick.

I got a little more done on the exhaust.

I got all of the pieces cut for the passenger side collector to muffler pipe and ummmm.......duct taped them together so I could tack weld them......and it worked!

After the duct tape was removed I made the worlds ugliest TIG welds.

I need more practice.....a lot more practice.

I had to use the MIG for the weld at the Y.

From the muffler on back should be a bit easier.
