I sure would in the carb. Don't let old gas screw up the passages in the carb. I know yours will be only not more than a few months but here's a story. My younger brother has a 70"s Vette he rarely drove. The last time he drove it his timing chain slipped and he bent a few pushrods. He let it sit without Stabil for about 1 1/2 years. . I replaced the chain and gears, pushrods, etc and we fired it up. Adjusted the valves etc. Ran like crap. Anybody surprised? He put some in-tank additive in it and it drove normal for a short while. But then crappy again. Anybody surprised? The whole time I told him I need to rebuild (soak) the carb again and change the fuel filter. I even wanted to blow out the fuel lines. He can't get over the fact that I had just rebuilt his carb about a year prior to this so it shouldn't need it again. I even found another quadrajet, rebuilt it, and gave it to him to prove my point. With another gasket! HELLOWA! Vette has not left the garage since. 2nd Quadrajet still in my saran wrap 20 feet away from it. The following sentence is not meant at you Buddy.
I guess the ol' saying "YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE IT DRINK" really is true. So to my brother I say....DUH. And to you Gavin I say get some Sta=Bil through the carb and lines.
I had some computer issues the past few days I had to take care of, but it's all good now.
Hi Baja, old lathes are really cool and tough as nails. I love my '56 South Bend.
Here's the VDO air-core movement, dial, needle and housing.
I just need some time to figure out how to assembled it and get it dialed in.
Thank you!
No problemo buddy, it's great to see you back on FTE!
Early Sunday afternoon I was getting ready start the engine. I had been cranking it without and spark plugs to get oil pressure, then I installed the #1 plug and got the timing set to 10° BTDC. I got some new gas and added some Sta-bil to it, dropped the fuel hose into the gas and cranked a little more until BANG, the #1 cylinder fired! So we put the rest of the plugs in connected the wires and made a redneck happy!
Question, I drained the gas out of the line to the fuel pump, that's it. It will be a couple of months before I put fuel in the tank and run the engine. Do I need to drain the gas from the carb. or fuel pump?
IT IS ALIVE!! Nice job, man!! I would go ahead and drain all that out, agree with what Jeff said.
Man that had to be an EPIC moment. It's sounds great! I'm very happy for you and the boy (that's WAY taller than you now, lol)
P.S. I agree with Jeff. The only thing I'd add is that I would use Yamalube Ring Free instead of the Stabil, but the ring free is likely overkill. The ring free is basically a complete fuel system complete cleanout. I run it in all my gasoline engines all the time. My FIL had a chainsaw that would barely run and 1 tank thru of ring free made it pur like it should. Woke up my buddies V-10 as well.
Again Jackson, you have taught an old Dog, a new trick. Each time we leave Baja, I put some Stabil in all the rolling & floating stock. Until you mentioned it, I had never heard of the Yamalube Ring Free, and it is now on my "Bringo" list for my return to the other side of the cactus. Do you have any recommendations for Diesel? We usually leave our old '93 F250 in San Diego, when North of the border. And now, we have a Mercedes Benz, GL320 diesel, which will be a 'Pavement Princess' here in Texas, and it will hide in the garage while we are in Baja... Previously, I have used Stabil for diesel...
Not anymore...I only use the Power Service white bottles in winter, gray in fall, spring and summer. I used to use Sea-Foam in my older diesels, but the new fuel rails and HP pumps make me nervous putting anything else in them.
Sweet amigo, sounds perfect, and the tach works great... You da man.. I am loving it... I am behind you, but not too far.. Baja
I was pretty stoked to see the old tach. working!

It kinda scared me, I was expecting a lot cranking, backfiring, coughing and sputtering but she just took off!

I'm really impressed with the Summit Racing carb. I didn't touch a screw on it. I did put Sta-bil (from a new bottle) in the fresh gas before I started it, so I should be GTG. That makes me feel better!

I was one happy camper Sunday afternoon! It's about 30" to the rocker panel. I think momma's going to need a step stool.
I've heard good stuff about the Yamalube.
Don't feel bad, Gavin, mine hasn't moved on it's own power since 1999!
Yikes!
The weather yesterday was really nice so I worked outside all day. I did get a tiny bit done today.
The front clip goes on a whole lot easier with the wheels removed.
I need to wire up the lights and other stuff in the engine compartment, put on the hood, weld up the bumper mounts and it will be done for now. Then I get to start the trouble shooting phase.
You can't beat hydraulics!Man Gavin, you got a DAM* GOOD looking combo going on there. The whole package. The paint color, old school mirrors, height, tire diameter, kept the moldings, shiny this and that, etc.
Hmmm, how close to Zac are you? (hint, hint. think photo shoot)
