Tugly, I looked through my older post we did talk about EP earlier that was with the engine running. This time I checked the MAP sensor based on your link in you signature. It states
"NOTE; at KOEO all three readings should be within .2/10ths, if not repair or replace the bad sensor before continuing. BARO won’t change with the engine running"
I'm making graphs and screenshots for an eventual posting, but my time is limited this week because my granddaughter is visiting... and sorry, but that takes precedence.
Good stuff coming from the data sent to me, plus an experiment I did for the class.
Jumping into class! I got AE from Clay about 2 weeks ago, and Riff Raff was clased last week and behind this week. I am trying to get my 7.3 to start?! It died a few weeks back and wouldn't restart. Checked oil, fuel all good, new batteries (ouch) CPS just because, ICP, IPR, again cause I guess to burn $$$$?! Nothing. AE I started with the no start procedures I found on all date ($30) and I have RPM at crank the ICP info was iffy so I popped for it and the IPR but no dice? The EPM voltage is low and drops at crank, says to check power and ground at ECM??
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am pouring $$$ into a hole in the ground and the STEALERSHIP would have been CHEAP compared to what I have in AE, parts, time, etc?! I bought AE for this issue and down the road, so I'm OK with that, FRUSTRATED then found this AE class hoping to LEARN?!

Welcome to FTE. You might start a new thread for this, more people will see it on it's own. Plus there are some no start threads going, check those out. Good luck. Knock on wood I haven't had this issue, yet, so not real good at where to look, but many others will jump in.
Mention what year, mileage, where are you located.

7.3L Powerstroke Starting Req.:
Vehicle Power: 10.5v
RPM Signal : 100rpm
Injector Control Pressure (ICP): 0.85v (about 500psi)
Fuel Injector Pulse Width: 1 to 6 milliseconds
EPM voltage? This is a 7.3L, using Non-OBDII to connect?
I can help you with AE here, but I can't hijack into the other aspects of a no-start... it would be unfair to those who clicked here to learn AE. Like trekbasso mentioned... plenty of help from a dedicated no-start thread and many people willing to assist (including myself). Last link in my signature will help as well.
That's Ken's site. He has a lot of experience with these rigs and his shop is a homage to all things 7.3L Powerstroke. He has taken a lot of time to carefully document his work, and he's even ripped sensors apart to see their construction. Fantastic information on the whole site.
More AE basics: Playing back a file you recorded.
I'll do just one sensor, so you get the idea... then you can practice with one or more sensors that you have recorded while tinkering with AE. I used BARO because it points out a few important things:
Not all sensors need the same attention, BARO probably needs the least. Engine Oil Temperature is important, but it's a slow mover... unlike Injector Control Pressure. I set my BARO to be looked at once every 5 seconds... I'll show you how to do that later.
With these slow changes, looking at the sensor over the time of say... a minute... you'll see a very boring flat line. I recorded BARO over a very long time while changing altitude and I got a useable graph where I can see what my elevation was as I was driving. The importance of this is again for a later lesson.
Some sensors have huge ranges during operation, like RPMs... they go from 600 at idle, to 3200 or so on a stock truck. The default setting for RPM in AE is 8000... silly for a diesel and the graphing will look a little flat. I set my RPM maximum at 3500. The BARO is a sensor that has tiny changes, so the "scaling" has to be tiny, if you are going to see these changes on a graph. Default max for BARO is 5 volts - perfect, because sea level is about 4.7 volts.
When playing back my BARO on a graph, I want the biggest rise and fall I can get to make the altitude change obvious (without going off the graph), so I changed the minimum. Why change the minimum? Zero volts is a perfect vacuum and I didn't dock withe the International Space Station on this particular drive, so I set a realistic minimum for the altitudes I experienced.
Here are a few thousand words on the procedure.
This is what happens when you look too closely at a slow-moving sensor. Very boring:
I skipped over a few things that may or may not be obvious to Scan Tool users. In the event the above is a bit confusing, I'm pausing for questions.
If you go to his website he has ALOT of info and how to's for our trucks and 7.3.
Rob I am glad to see you doing the AE schooling and getting the hang of AE. I have been following this tread closely but it just isn't setting in since I don't have AE to do it first hand. I'm kinda a retard that way that I don't learn unless I am actually doing it.
I also want to thank Rich and everyone who have been posting in this tread it is very educational. Now I just need to get AE so I can retain this information. But it is nice knowing that it is here to be had. Thanks Guys!!
Might be a little OT, but seeing as we're discussing AE, thought I would throw this out there.
I'm using the Proline OBD-II connector to interface with AE. Is anyone having issues with this connector? Because of the position that the connector is in when hooked up to the truck, it is often getting banged around by my foot. This has caused the case to be a little loose and often I have to wiggle my USB cable to regain communications with the truck. I need to look in to repositioning my OBD port I suppose. I'm also thinking about printing out a new enclosure for the interface that would position the OBD interface on the Proline 90* to the USB port.
