You can but I read on here that it can cause interference with the program. I dont know how true it is, maybe someone will chime in and confirm if it does or not.
i heard it only causes interference when its straight from the 12v to the puter, but putting the invertor inbetween eleminates that. thats what i've been told anyway.

Gotcha and that makes sense. Well time for me to buy an inverter.
Is this the procedure for changing the tire size mentioned earlier
KOEO
Connect to ODB port
Start AE
enter year and engine
it pulls all the codes
select "Change System"
select "Anti-lock Brake System"
it reads codes, view codes
select "Tire Size Calibration"
select "Initate"
Use ">" to get to tire size
Click "Done"
Does KOEO mean key on engine on or key on engine off or what?

Key on engine off. KOER mean key on engine running

if you read AE's web site the strongly recommend against using a 12 volt power inverter to power a lap top while plugged in to the OBD port.
it creates a ground loop and can cause bad thing to happen !!!!!!
they have posted pics of what has happend....
my opinion is have a extension cord handy for both the lap top and a battery charger for the vehicle.

Well I guess I wont buy one then. I haven't been on there website but im glad you posted that.
I've been powering up from the cigarette lighter for over a year now... but I have a netbook that uses low power and an inexpensive inverter to keep it going indefinitely. That being said, look at the big red letters on the first post in this thread, and a few posts later.
AE is powerful for troubleshooting/maintenance, but it makes a lousy gauge set while on the road. Your call, but you'll crave these capabilities if you ever get a no-start or if fuel economy goes to hell.
Not trying to be a bummer....but better to be safe than sorry....
I have done data logging while driving and will do it again as I have home work to do for this class. I just make sure my lap top battery is fully charged.
I wonder what AE has to say about a DC plug in made for the computer?

I wouldn't want the computer and the interface to share a ground - that sounds like trouble. My inverter "floats", meaning no ground. I was careful when I set my system up, but few know how to do this properly and AE will just say "Don't do it."
