Anybody know how the AE compares to DP's infinity. just got my first diesel "that's mine to play with" a couple months ago. got an infinity but wondered if I should get an AE too, or if it would be a waste of money. Thanks
Infinity is far more powerful: It can see things AE can't - like injection timing, and it can read the system screaming fast - compared to AE. The data rates in 1996 (OBDII established) are glacial compared to the technology we've all grown accustomed to in recent years. Infinity links to the PCM through Quarterhorse, getting direct information and bypassing the OBDII "translator".

Can I just purchase the " enhanced ford bundle " or do you need to purchase other gear to make this bundle work on my win 7 PC ?
Will it do a Buzz test on my 2003 7.3 F250 SD ?
I will attend school once they have shipped to me

I heard a rumor that AE can not work with the vehicles made in Brazil. I don't know if this applies, but it's worth a little homework. AE works with Windows 7, that's what I use (on a laptop and a netbook).
BTW, love your country. I drove from Aukland to Hawke's Bay (picked up some apples), then up to the Bay of Islands - where we rented a sailboat for a few days and hung out with the dolphins. We want to go there again.
It might be too old for the security dongle, but it sounds like you didn't enter the activation code for the Ford Enhanced bundle. When you buy the software with a bundle, you have to click on "Help", then "Feature Activation". A screen will pop up, showing what is activated. I hope you saved your box with the activation code in it.
Got the dongle, and its worked before just fine. Maybe I need to reinstall it or something. I will check the enhanced bundle etc. Yes saved the blue paper with the activations code. Thanks brother for the response.

I had issues with mine the second day I used it, 2 of the USB ports are real close side by side, with the dongle and cable plugged in next to each other, I had issues, and it didn't show that I had activated the program. The problem was the dongle was not in right, I had to "jiggle the dongle" I called AE about it and they said that the dongle was what activated it all.
I have not had any other activation issues after that. Maybe you have a USB port that is dead/ dying. Is the little red light on the dongle lit?
Rich, great info teacher. I needed this three weeks ago... But better late than never. Ps... I also bought the 2003, my year, ford 7.3 diagnostic book on eBay for 39.00 to go with my AE

There it is folks! Kudos to MiamiPSD for mentioning it! I'm helping with the nuances of AE, but the bible for the Powerstroke (whatever year) is the Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnostics (PC/ED) manual. Woodnthings suggested I buy one and I have it. nlemerise bought one and he learned what I have - the PC/ED is the book that showed the Ford techs how to troubleshoot the Powerstroke - but a scan tool (like AE) AND the book are two halves of a complete tool. I got my Ford factory book used online for about $75. In the absence of this, the last link in my signature will give you a very powerful troubleshooting quick-reference.
I am still not sure what the "security dongle" is. I asked once before and a reply mentioned I may have an earlier version of AE. However I purchased mine just a year or so ago and no extra "piece" to plug in. I have only used it a couple of times to read/clear codes but I assume that that means I am connected via the OBDll and good to go on any diagnostics, tests ETC. ??

You're good to go. A security dongle looks exactly like a USB thumb drive that must use a second USB port while the OBDII interface is plugged in in its own USB port. The security dongle contains a security code in it. All commands to the OBDII inteface have to have the security code as part of the command, so no dongle - no interface. That's how I understand it, anyway.
I have a copy of the software on my laptop with no enhanced codes, it allows me to review the recorded data and to make some screen shots (no connection shots) for this class. The software works fine without the dongle, it just doesn't talk to the OBDII interface without it.
A buddy of mine has a 2002 F-250 6.8L gasser. He put 40" tires on it. I went to reprogram the tire size and all i get is a "request not supported by the system" message after I enter the tire size with the arrows.
Here is how I did it:
KOEO
Connect to ODB port
Start AE
enter year and engine
it pulls all the codes
select "Change System"
select "Anti-lock Brake System"
it reads codes, view codes
select "Tire Size Calibration"
select "Initate"
Use ">" to get to tire size
Click "Done"
get the message......
Any ideas?
BTW I have the Enhanced Ford Bundle

You did everything right... for a 7.3L. There are a lot of electrical differences in the wiring diagrams between gasser, diesel, and Excursion. I wonder if there is a different procedure for a gasser.

I've seen both manuals and I found a 2000, but if you can't... I believe the 2002 has no significant changes under the hood. There was no GEM in 2002, (VPS, I think) so you need to decipher what is exclusive to the 2002.
