That's the same reason why when I bought my truck it had no air cleaner at all lol.

Mine is just sitting in the garage waiting for me to do something with it. Never considered selling it since I doubt they are worth much.

I bought two of them for $10 each from a JY about 8-9 years ago, both came from 1970s sedans.

Eh, yeah not worth much. My sisters J10 has one, it seemed to fit the AFB carb on that, it looks similar to mine. But I plan to stick with my open air cleaner. I have am issue with water getting on it when it rains but I need a hood seal and hinges to correct that.

Alright, put a Redhead steering box in the truck. The old one was taking a S H I T over the last 500 miles I've put on it and was getting really, REALLY bad to keep in the lane.

Painted the steering shaft while it was out.

I rebuilt the rag joint. Old one was rotten and loose in the bolt holes.

All installed and test driven.

Drives like a brand new truck now, no wandering, no play, the steering firmness is greatly improved over how it used to be. Doesn't feel like overly assisted power steering anymore. Steering returns to center on it's own now, I had to help it back before. I'd say it was definitely worth the $300 for the box and rag joint. Much safer and easier to drive.

Excellent! I replaced mine with a good (free also) used box from a 1996 F-150, huge difference! One big improvement, 1992-96/7 no rag joint or the upper joint, just U-joints, one at the box and one at the base of the stub column. Still has the collapsible shaft but it slides easily for R&R.

Glad to hear/see the work getting done the truck looked good when we saw each other at Discount. Too bad the bronco had been at home at the time...

Do those U joints in the newer shafts ever want to seize up?

Thanks!

I wound up using metric fasteners for the rag joint, as they fit the holes in the fiber disc much better than standard fasteners. Plus the crush bolt for the input shaft is metric anyways.

Drove it a good 15 miles today. The force required to turn the wheel has gone down. Drives real nice. Steering is responsive and there is no play in the wheel. Took it on the freeway on the way back home and if you were to sneeze you'd probably be in the other lane!

Is it good to sneeze and be in the other lane? Sounds like a safety issue to me since I have allergies.

I thought you had a Redhead box in Rusty, Gary?

It sure is sensitive. Now that I can keep it straight I can see how far crooked my steering wheel is, which is barely at all but I'll fix that soon.
