I haven't had super good luck there. They like to damage the vehicles with forklifts. The Tacoma Pick and Pull is great, $2 entry fee and they offer "store credit" on returned items if the item you got doesn't fit. The yard is clean and has both cars and trucks. I've been once so far, the drive is a little far but its worth it of you are getting specific parts.

Budget, for me, is good for going with a pocket of cash I don't mind burning. They aren't as cheap as I'd like but that's the brakes. They are close enough to be worth it.

I saw a Mazda pickup fall off the forklifts when I was there. Guy didn't care. No big deal!

I have a request for you West coast junkyard prowlers. If you come across a California spec 460 in an F-250/350 I would like to get the factory intake air ducting.

The other things I would like to get are the misfire detector tone ring which is part of the external balance weight AKA hatchet behind the balancer and the timing cover as it has a unique mount for the pickup. I have the pickup. Getting those at a reasonable price will probably depend on the engine condition. The other items, if possible, the EGR tube (royal PITA to get loose at the bottom and is peculiar to the OBD-II engines and the engine wiring harness as it has the different EGR wiring and the shielded misfire detector wiring. These items can come off an E-250/350, the intake ducting is the only thing pickup specific.

Thanks!

Alright, this thing finally got a new set of tires.

The truck drives better, rides smoother and talk about some silent tires. I couldn't believe how quiet the drive home was. Very happy with them so far. Now I just need to repaint the rims sometime now that I have wheel weights in a different spot. These tires also took less weight to balance than the old ones.

Got the old tires up for sale.

Isn't it amazing how much difference tires can make? Even just the noise can put me off, like the tires that came on Rusty. Anyway, well done!

Yeah it is. We put Hankooks on my dads pickup and our van last month. And both had the same change in ride quality, stability and quietness. These Hankooks make the ride a little firmer but softer if that makes sense. They don't have as much give but they don't jar you to death. The tread is almost 1/2" thick on these tires too.

I think part of the difference is that the new rubber is pliable while the old has gotten hard.

Probably is. The tires on my dads pickup were the original 27 year old tires and the van's were 17 years old.

Most of what I've read says that tires are only good for 6 to 10 years from when they were made - not sold. And they can stay on the rack for years before being sold.

I read the same thing. Usually around here by 8-11 years they start getting minor signs of ozone cracking. I'm sure down south where it's hotter that happens sooner. Two tires I were sold were made late 2013 and the other two late 2014. So, I got fairly fresh tires.

I put a headlight relay kit in the truck. So far so good. That was a very easy install. I used the LMC kit. Seems to be of pretty good quality.

Well worth the effort and expense.

I noticed the headlights are brighter even in the day time. I'll have to drive it tonight and see how it improves.

In my measurements the kit increases voltage to the headlight by about 1 volt. According to this chart, from this web site, dropping the voltage from 12.8 volts to 12.0 volts drops the light output by 20%. However, the running voltage should be more like 14.5 volts, which is what the bulb was designed for. But, still the output is significantly less w/o the relays.

Is there any need for fuses to be added to the battery portion of the relay kit?
