Steve,
Congrats, it has to be a good feeling to have your truck motivate on it's own power! Willard, my 49 rested for about 30 years.
If I understand where you live, you will be limited in driving range unless your truck takes a boat ride. I spent a couple of weeks sailing the B.C. coast between Vancouver and Desolation sound with a car friend 2 years ago.
Absolutely!!! it's exciting taking a drive when your truck is at that point. I recall after I put the hood and fenders on, I was a little scared. I liked being able to see the engine and making sure everything was ok while driving.

There's some excellent driving roads around here. The road up to Earl's cove is about 100km long one way, which is plenty for a pleasure cruise.
Sketchy's had it's first real excursion in at least 30 years. took it down to the local village to test everything and provoke any unnoticed issues. Blown away with how utterly docile these old trucks are, even at modern speeds. (At least, compared to my presumptions)
Dianne took some pictures while we were on the road.

Harvest time in Nebraska! I will be helping a lifelong farmer friend this fall during harvest. Took a couple of laps with him in the combine before jumping in my big rig to deliver the gold😊
Dave, I know this rig is for chopping corn for silage and not for picking corn like your friends combine in Nebraska, but check out my BIL's corn chopper. He said it's worth $600,000. The head can be changed to picking corn or harvesting wheat/barley. The head alone cost $300,000.

Wow that rig screams "stay out of my way" !!!!! If I take a load to the Ethanol Plant it's about 50 miles RT. If I take it to the local Grain Elevator it's about 10 miles RT! I had driven many Fire Apparatus in the past but this is a whole different beast. I kind of like it!

At our family reunion we joked that the John Deere should be used to remove protestors blocking interstates and bridges!
So you have your CDL from your firetruck days, but driving this corn hauler is different.
