Are your gauges correct? Maybe it's just me, but I think I'd like to see a bit more than 10 pounds of oil pressure while driving, if it's even showing that much.
I was only reving around 1100. The red line is set at 4K. I do agree with you about more pressure though. I’m gonna swap in a 2x2 intake this week being I’ll be home for a while. Gonna check a few things while the intake is off.
Throw-way-back 2001 somewhere in Kansas on I-35 between Wichita and Kansas City. Picture of my 48 F1 going cross-country and taken by Arrowsmith thru the windshield of his 46 Ford sedan. On that trip I got to meet Paul Garrigan "Rumbleseat" in Denver, Jim Marlett in Wichita and hooked up with Arrowsmith, had to adjust the points and did that at the Zoo. Met Rich Steyer outside St. Louis, Bill Bentley in Michigan, Paul "23T" near Ashtabula, Oh who put me on to Rain-X. Then on the way home I lost a waterpump in the middle of the night near Minonk, IL, overnighted one from Sac Vintage Ford and installed it in the parking lot of the motel. Discovered an old crack in the block had opened up in all the excitement so removed T-stats and kept the rad cap loose. Two gallon jugs of water and I was rolling again. Next stop was to drop off Whitefish MT beer for Dave in Eau Claire, WI and finally back across the Rockies to home in nw Montana. Some of these guys are gone now. Rumbleseat was my motivator to get on the highway with a flathead powered rig. I recommend it!
Took my 54 out for a drive today just to get out of the house. I dropped off the recycling since they are not doing curbside pickup during the pandemic. Then I went up Sugar Run Hollow and then down Shade Hollow road. This turned into a dirt road. A good drive me me and Old Betsy.
PS: I get my 55 our of storage next Sunday from the county fairgrounds, if we're not locked up.
Got the truck out yesterday. Loaded a table, chairs, and a ladder to take to the house in Jeff City. Once there I loaded it with brush to haul off.
Today I will take it back to California before any rain hits. It's nice to put it to work.
Hey Abe
It’s good to see you are back driving again! How’s your
shoulder feel driving?
Joe - It’s good to see your old truck doing some Spring work.
I’ve got to move my wife’s huge art stuff pile 100 miles to her studio
this week... always an adventure.

Got to like that.

Ben, shoulder is better than before surgery but not close to 100%. I was going to PT 3 times a week but am not going this week. As my wife says, "better to have no Corona Virus and a weak shoulder than a strong shoulder on a ventilator!"
But I have to watch using my left hand to make over the top of the wheel motions when backing or parking. Thanks for asking!
John, I have Armstrong Power Steering on my truck. The only way to top it off is through hard work. And due to the Corona Virus I am no longer going to physical therapy, so I am trying to replicate at home what I did at PT.

Wow, what a trip that was! Great that you were able to meet up with all those icons of the flathead world. Rumbleseat also influenced my decision to drive to Truckstocks. I sure miss his travelogs. I have a copy of his "Summer 2010 Trip" if anyone would like to read it.

Ben, I'm still running flathead power, but I swapped out the 4.27 rear end for a 3.50 9" when I rebuilt the truck. It'll do 65 without cranking up too many rpm's and still has enough for a short push toward 75. I run 215-85R-16" tires/wheels for a stock profile and that helps keep rpm's down to a reasonable level.
