Wife's are judgmental for sure. Mine was never helpful with my food problems Lol!
funny you mention your father. Mine has always been overweight, and eventually found himself with diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and not to mention joint problems that stop him from being very active. I watched him turn it around by losing probably 50 pounds and cleaning up the diet big time. Slowly, his ability to exercise came back, and now he's rocking and rolling compared to when this started about 10 years ago.
I figured if he could do that, then i can do it this lol
I'm no good at critiquing someone on exercises. I bearly do enough now to keep my heart beating.
My wife has given up on me losing weight, but secretly hopes I will do it eventually. She keeps mentioning how many calories the food I eat has in it, and judging me. I want to lose the weight, but not necessarily for myself, but for her. Yet... my addiction to food (all the wrong types) and my lack of drive to exercise is a sure combo to end up like my father.
i keep reading this and thinking how much i hated it when i was overweight. and how much i love it now. and something about how you're situation with your dad and wife really gets to me lol! i'm pretty sure i've been there, or close maybe. anyhoo, i'll help you out any way i can, not that i can do much... but i'll encourage you every step of the way if you start making changes
I appreciate the offer. I may just take you up on that.. I am not certain I am in the right mind set right now, but perhaps something will spark a change. Thank you for the kind words.
You bet! Here's some fuel for you right now lol, I just ate a boiled egg salad, which was delicious, but both the wife and I are craving something sweet! But we're both being strong. Now that's she's on my side, it's a lot easier for sure. Maybe you'll come up with an idea to get your wife in gear for you too!
it's funny, that wifeyness we were talking about, somehow we started meshing better and we don't have complaints about each other now. I couldn't have gotten where I am except her being as supportive. Not with her words really lol, but by helping with preparing food, letting me work out hard every day, and most importantly by not bringing home junk food.
speaking of her not helping with words lol, she just asked me to find some chocolate Haha! She knows there's nothing sweet in this house except for table sugar and maybe some honey lol
I will be honest, my food choices are my fault, there are some healthy options in the house, but mostly we are busting at the seams with junk food in the cabinets. My wife works hard to lose weight, and is in fairly good shape, but it seems that when she judges my choices, it makes me want to eat more, or more poorly. It is completely my own fault, because she wants my best out of me, but I am programmed to destroy myself I guess.
oh yeah i hear you, whenever somebody tells me i shouldn't be eating something, immediately i want to eat it, and the rest of the package lol! guys like me and you don't need somebody telling us to not eat something within arms reach, never helps lol! removing the food in the first place solved that for me. now there's nothing in the house for my wife to instruct me on how/when/why/if/should i eat lol! that's my experience anyways. like I said, my wife is supportive in actions mostly, not in what the says to me lol!
oh get this, one time back when i was carrying quite a bit of fat, she can up behind me and kinda patted/slapped my love handles and buttocks as if i were a damn show pig and said something like "yep you're getting fat" lol, i hated that!
At one time, I considered buying large quantities of unpopped popcorn, and swallow them with water like I would a pill, to fill my stomach with something that would give it the full feeling, but would pass through my body without adding fat. (keep in mind this was a passing thought, and I haven't done any research as to if there are/would be any bad side effects of doing such) Then I could eat small healthy quantities of food, and still feel full. Of course one thing is, that would be bad, is it would keep my stomach stretched out, so if I had a day that I wasn't eating the popcorn, I would desire it to be filled with food pretty bad.
I went home for lunch today, and planned to eat only a salad.. then laying on top of the bag of salad, was a cooked ham steak... soon I was eating a ham steak and a salad, then the wife says.. There are peas over here too.... Luckily I was full already, so I could talk myself out of them. They would have been a better choice for me than the ham steak, but the temptation was too much.
lol, there's nothing wrong with a chunk of ham with a salad IMO, long as it's not glazed with brown sugar and you trim the obvious fat away! One of my go-to meals is salad (dressed with either olive oil & pepper or vinegar) and grilled chicken breast, which is minimal carbs, not too much saturated fat, and around 30g of protein if i eat the whole breast. all in all i get plenty full with a healthy meal of no more than 400 to 500 calories... AND i get a huge chunk of my protein requirement taken care of!
so, the ham steak would have more sodium and saturated fat naturally, but if you only eat about 8oz of it then i bet you could fill up on the salad greens and be really content. i might have to give a ham steak salad a shot sometime lol
granted, i try to eat less than 2500 calories a day, where teh protein content is pretty close to 200g each day. that makes it pretty clear how much i can get away with as far as fatty meats and carby foods
yeah man, looks like about 5 ounces of ham has 200 calories, 30 grams protein! 12% of daily recommended saturated fat isn't too bad. only problem is the salt - 1700mg. over half what you need lol! that can be easlity worked around though. just don't add salt to anything else i don't add salt to anything at all anymore. including this steamed fish that i've been eating on the last 2 days haha!
i need to dig up a diet that this guy showed me, its basically a modified Atkin's diet - except its fairly sustainable! i've dabbled in it lately and i've found a lot of benifits. mostly, i get full on the foods, thats the best part. worst part is the same with every diet, i still crave McD's and Hershey's lol
here it is! this is his reply when i asked him about it.
he's 235lbs of almost all muscle, 8-9% body fat, lifts like an hour and a half every day.
