Getting ready to fluid film the truck and put it away in the next couple weeks. Trying to save this one from the salt attack coming soon. I'm sure I'll have a few romps in the snow with it but it'll be parked most of the winter. If I could find some free storage for my trailer the truck would be in the garage. Maybe next year.
Mine is getting fluid film this weekend If the rain is gone. Then next weekend going for a professional detail to get ready for winter
In post #105 I had a little steering issue so I replaced the steering box. I called Red Head Steering and in 3 days I had a new box on my doorstep. Since then I have continued to have steering issues so I replaced the ball joints and the drag link, both these items failed Pa state inspection so they had to be replaced anyway. While the mechanic was in there and I told him to look for obvious bad parts, they found a bad u joint and the passenger side and the hub on the passenger side was in a billion pieces. Steering was a lot better but just not quite right. Now that the front end is nice and tight, this truck wanders all over the place. Rotated and rebalanced the tires, no change. Went to the dealer for an alignment, its within specs, in fact its perfect. I did not believe the Dealer so I took it to another shop who had an alignment rack big enough. Again perfect. Still wanders all over the place. The independent dealer took it for an extensive test drive and immediately said the steering box was bad. I told him it was brand new, less than 3 months old. He said everything else under the truck is perfect, it has to be the box. So i called Red Head on Tuesday for a replacement and it showed up today on my doorstep. I hope this is the problem. Oh, by the way, it wanders all over the place and if you take your hands off the steering wheel while driving, the wheel shakes back and forth like a washing machine but the front wheels are driving straight, weird.
I replaced the battery in the truck today. Lights were looking a little dim, 4x4 wasn't working so I tested the battery and had only 10.8 volts. Time for a new one. Lights are brighter now and the 4x4 works, actually the transfer case motor was having a hard time moving with low voltage.
Just a little note here, since lots of guys here use their truck only when they need it, a float charger really extends the life of the battery by years and years. Harbor Freight has 'em for $4 so there's really no excuse not to use it when your truck (or motorcycle, or ATV or boat, etc) sits.

My father found a guy selling Battery Tenders 10 at a time on Ebay. It was a good deal. I use em on my mowers and cars over the winter.
I ordered new front tires for the truck, BFG Rugged Terrian on Friday and got them put on today. Most of the wandering is gone. These Cooper AT3 tires really suck, no more Coopers for me. I still think it needs a new steering box however.
I never did like Coopers. I have Always liked BF Goodrichs and Goodyears. Other then that not many tires. I have had the BF Goodrich Rugged Trails in 235 75 R15 tires all the way around on our 85 Chevy van for 7 or 8 years now.
