I got linked to this thread form the oil burners web site.
I'm 40 minutes from Spring Green.
the pics of that truck (craigslist ad) looks like they were taken at the boat launch on hwy 23 at the wisconsin river. (bridge in the back looks like hwy 23)
I am 99% sure that the area across the river in this pic is the western part of tower hill state park.
To me, taking pics at a boat landing suggests the current "seller" knows something is up and didnt take the pics in front of his house for that reason.
Complete idiot for leaving the plates visible and putting his phone number in the ad.
Yeah, but that's not what I was suggesting at all. I'm saying he ought to give a family member a chance to explain himself, just in case he's got a REALLY good excuse.
What if his uncle couldn't afford the prescription for a lifesaving medical treatment, so he had to sell Ryan's truck for $3500. The treatment costed him $3050, so he gives the remaining $450 to Ryan, since the money came from his truck. He came up with a story so that Ryan wouldn't be mad or something like that.
Granted, the chance that something like that happened is like 0.0001%, but I would still want to hear an explanation before I got the police involved. He can still get the police involved after the visit, if necessary.
With all due respect, who gives a damn what the uncle's excuse is? If he had some life-threatening illness, he has my sympathy. But that doesn't make auto theft, fraud and whatever other laws apply (not to mention stabbing your family in the back) justifiable or forgivable.

I gotta agree. Seeing as how my family is going through a similar situation with an aunt, i can honestly say that all respect I have for that family member is gone after what they've done and things they've said. So i can see how Ryan feels. There comes a point where when certain actions are committed and people cease to be viewed as family. Family wouldn't do that

I definitely understand, but I would still want to hear it before the police were involved. He can get the police involved at any time, but he won't have any authority to call them off once they are involved. This is evident in how this series of events actually occurred. He didn't lose the opportunity to involve the police by visiting his uncle.

I definitely agree. I guess it's my curiosity about what motivated someone to throw his nephew under the proverbial bus for $4,000 that lead me to recommend that he speak to his uncle prior to police involvement.

Exactly.
In my eyes, there's a difference between being related to someone and considering him or her to be family. Anyone who pulled this crap on me would definitely be excluded from "family".
