Thanks guys. He has alays been the uncle out to make a buck but i parted with him on using my truck and storing it till i got back. My parents think its not mine cause of the bed rails and rims.. i know it is because of the the rust spots. Stickers etc. I will be contacty the police. To answer he sold it and this is someone else. Im omw to my uncles i should be there in abou 45 mins. Sorry for bringing up this drama guys. Just wanted to say hi lol
No no, it's not drama bud! This is just a bad situation for you! We'll support you in any way! Just don't do anything to your uncle before you take all the legal steps. Don't listen to me, I'll get you in trouble! I'm just pissed for you. You've got the Marines to think about now, you don't need to do anything to get yourself in trouble. Do it the right way and the legal way and get your truck back! Good luck Ryan and definately keep us posted ok bud!
WOW!!!!! This story took a helluva turn! I can't fathom how someone could live with themselves knowing they completely screwed over a relative like that. I mean, I have some relatives that I don't exactly get along with as well as I would like to, but something like this is just insane!!
Ryan, I'm glad you found your truck and know it's not in the scrap yard. I hope you are able to get it back and your uncle gets dealt with. That's about all I can say about this whole thing now.
It's probably to late but don't go tonight this issue just got a lot more complicated there is some big time fraud and criminal activity involved here. Go to the police it's their job to deal with these kind of people. Give them all the info you can and any names phone numbers and addresses you have hopefully they can find your truck before it disappears for good.
Meh. I'd probably give a family member one last chance to explain himself before I got the law involved.
No police = no punishment. That to me is enabling nefarious activity. I can understand the want to keep the peace in the family but, this is too big. It would be one thing if he actually blew the motor and said,"here's your 6000 lb boat anchor". It is completely different to say, "I made your truck a 6000lb boat anchor and sold it for scrap", and then turn around and see that he is selling/sold it in the same shape you left it.
Side note. From the insurance perspective, if the truck is titled only to you, then you are the only one with the power to release ownership. Having said that, this makes your truck stolen. You need to not spend a dime of the money he gave you and fully disclose that it was given to you under false pretense. Accepting money for it could try to be spun as a sale.
I don't know how long you were gone for, but it wouldn't surprise me if he applied for a new title for it. I know here in MI, my buddy bought a motorcycle that was a basket case and put it back together and applied for a new title in his name. Once it cleared a background check for theft, he was issued a title. I am thinking that if you were gone for a couple months, he did the same thing and told you it was scrapped, figuring you were going to be mad and that would be it. That would leave him looking like the legal owner of your truck and then he would be free to do what he wants with it. Having not been reported as stolen it would pass the background check. Best of luck, we'll all be payin' close attention to this thread.
I think I would also have the police talk to the mechanic that wrote the quote on what was wrong with the truck, if there really was a mechanic that is.
Yeah, but that's not what I was suggesting at all. I'm saying he ought to give a family member a chance to explain himself, just in case he's got a REALLY good excuse.
What if his uncle couldn't afford the prescription for a lifesaving medical treatment, so he had to sell Ryan's truck for $3500. The treatment costed him $3050, so he gives the remaining $450 to Ryan, since the money came from his truck. He came up with a story so that Ryan wouldn't be mad or something like that.
Granted, the chance that something like that happened is like 0.0001%, but I would still want to hear an explanation before I got the police involved. He can still get the police involved after the visit, if necessary.
Wow I have never read a thread before and been more infuriated. Ryan these guys are right, dont spend the money, go to the police asap with title in hand and say it was stolen and you know its for sale. I really hope you get it back and everything is set straight. Im sorry you have to go through this after getting back from boot camp.
Remember when those guys screwed with your lug nuts Ryan and i said ill buy a ticket tomorrow to help whoop their asses? I probably wouldnt've then...but i DAMNED sure would like to now. I don't care if he needed the money to save the last hair on his ***, if someone in my own family lied, stole, and flat out disrespected me like this I would handle them like ANYONE else. But the guys are right...your in the Marines now. You represent the corps first, the country second, and then you yourself. Don't do anything I (Or the rest of us on FTE) want to do to this scum bag.
Call the police, now, if you haven't already, or even better go to the station. Print out the ad, take the title, give them the information and the phone numbers, file it as stolen and follow the officers to knock on their door.
Get it back, and maybe in a few years if your uncle shows his lousy face at the family reunion, deck him a time or two just for ****s and giggles.
Im sorry to hear all this happened bud, were all here for you. You would've been better off storing it with one of us to tell you the truth...i don't think anyone here has the nerve to do that to someone else, let alone a friend and a United States soldier while he's in boot....Buy the way, are you a hollywood marine? lol
Well this is quite interesting and now there are even more questions and concerns.
First, the vehicle is now stolen. No question about it. If your uncle retitled the vehicle without your knowledge, it's stolen. Simple as that. Go to the police, tell them what has happened. They will deal with it, and you will likely get your truck back. If not, your insurance company will pay you a fair value for the vehicle.
Second, how did he get the truck retitled in the first place? It's true that it can be done, but you have to sign your life away in the process down here. It takes quite a while too. The problem is that you can usually only retitle a vehicle to yourself if you loose the original title. Your uncle was never the owner. If he's attempted to title the vehicle in another state (which is the only way I see him being able to retitle it), then he's also committed fraud. The DMV will not be happy about that.
Third, if the party attempting to sell the truck now is aware that was stolen (given the timeline, they'd almost have to be), they are also going to be in trouble with law. Attempting to buy or sell property you know is stolen is a crime, too.
I still can't believe someone would do this kind of thing to a family member. Good luck with this and serving our Country.
