That's one beautiful truck right down to the smallest details.
thanks!
Today was first extended test drive. More than a couple miles.
Stopped for gas first. Then to In n Out for lunch. Then friend said how about a cruise down the 303 Freeway? Things were going well i vitals fine. He watched all on hand held while I watched other gauges. GPS 71 mph is 2400 RPM. Nice cruise speed. Hit a clover leaf at good speed & it felt fantastic with no body roll.
Now its at 55 miles total. All is beyond expectations so far. Will do MPG test once I get a few hundred miles on it. The TQ curve is unreal. Any rpm even off idle partial throttle it pulls very good. No WOT until I get a few miles on it.
New video up on YouTube. Better view than posting pics here. This webpage kills the quality and color
Nearing 150 miles so far. all is great in 427 FE land (except for fuel economy) Converter a bit too loose. Obvious making a bunch more torque than earlier estimates.
Sounds great! Doesn't the fuel injection have a self learning feature? I would think that the mileage might improve over time.
not sure how much it can learn.
I did a few timing adjustments with hand held and mpg up to 10.4.
When i I added the large transmission cooler I did not check fill. Took 1 1/2 qts additional fluid now RPM seems to be down even more.
Runs s and drives fantastic now but will continue to tweak as needed. Enriched the accel points across board and the throttle response much better now also.
Everyone likes to get good mileage but over ten driving around town with that much power doesn't seem to bad.
10.5 MPG @ 70-75 mph mostly highway with a touch of stop n go.
I spoke with Converter builder and they said its as tight of a converter as they can build so its obvious making a fair amt more power than first thought.
I have been messing with tune a bit more and it's running great driving great. Rain past couple days so unable to do more testing/tuning.
Lobe separation on cam a bit tight too so am thinking of going with a Hydraulic Roller vs the Solid Roller in it now. The solid roller was chosen for a solid lifter only 427 then I switched to the 482 with Hydraulic block but did not have the extra 1000.00+ to upgrade cam so just went with it as wanted to see how the rest of truck turned out and worked first.
Looks great and an awesome photo. Why no V8 on the hood?
simply to see how many would notice.
Actually i wanted Exterior to be as close to new as possible. It was originally a 300 6 so in parts search for NOS I searched for the 6 cyl badge vs V-8.
