Rusty is now exhausted. Magnaflow exhausted. No, everything isn't done, but the tedious alignment, adjusting, tacking, welding, and grinding is done. And, it fits! Tomorrow I'll install the gaskets in the flanged joint and tighten up all the hangers, but the system is now in place.
However, there is a minor problem - the exhaust pipe is only 1" from the tranny cooling line where it goes into the transmission. So I'll have to put some type of foil-faced insulation on the cooling line. And, the tailpipe runs only 1" away from the rear brake line where it goes from the tube to hose, so I'll have to insulate that as well. Other than that, it fits well.
After the radiator's cooler in the transmission coolant flow
Mounted horizontally to keep air bubbles from getting trapped
Bottom in/top out to force any bubbles out
And, it is mounted in rubber supports on each end so it isn't touching anything. Further, there's plenty of protection for the hoses.
In addition, I got the exhaust system tightened up, the tranny mounts tightened down, and the vacuum modulator tube/hose combo installed. (Almost forgot that. ) So, tomorrow I hope to install the instrument cluster, add oil & filter to the engine, and lots of ATF to the tranny and transfer case. And, maybe even fire it up??
Don - It should be as you pictured it. Duh! Seriously, thanks for the input.
All - I drove Rusty! And, there was only one "minor" problem. Some idiot didn't check that the old oil filter's gasket left with the filter. Yup, you guessed it - it didn't. And, it didn't seal with the new filter. The picture tells the tale. That's what 3 quarts of NEW oil looks like on the floor & driveway.
But, after that was fixed and the oil refilled I took it for a spin in the 'hood. Runs good. This engine in front of that C6 is completely different than Dad's M. Jekyll and Hyde. This one will turn the right rear from a stop. Dad's wouldn't even come close. Lethargic best describes the original engine, but not this M.
Still have a few things to do and check out before I say it is roadworthy, but it is getting there.
And that is why the first thing I ever do after putting a new filter on an engine is right after I see the oil pressure gauge move I jump out and look around for a minute lol.

Yup, that's about what I did. Had to get the truck off of the ever-expanding puddle. Boy, was it pouring out. Still had pressure, but what a mess.
I had that happen on my Town and Country , but I didn't catch it until I had driven 2 miles from the house. The top end was ticking quite a bit when I discovered it. So now I always take a rag and some brake cleaner to clean the gasket surface of the filter head adapter every time change the oil on anything. Those little gaskets can be elusive as well as cost you a bunch of money f you blow an engine up.
Yep, that "small" leak would have cause major problems if I hadn't found it quickly. But, it was certainly messy. And there was the expected small puddle of new oil under it this morn, but it was just running down from where I couldn't get to it yesterday and running down to drip off the low spot. All cleaned up now.
One thing I noticed quickly yesterday was that the brake pedal went a long way down. So I checked and the front of the MC was dry, but no leaks on it. The LR brake backing plate was old-damp, but not wet. So I pulled the wheel and drum and the inside looks old-wet as well, but no obvious leaks. Have sprayed it down with brake cleaner and will bleed the brakes and see what develops. May be brake cylinder time.......
