Yep, thought Rusty would be a better truck by getting the hand-me-downs. And, as I think about it, Rusty may get another one - the exhaust system. I actually have two choices - either the single exhaust that was on Dad's when I got it, or the one-into-two system that had been on Dad's recently. The single system has a very new, quiet muffler and good pipes. The other system has the Magnaflow, but I think I need to go with true duals and an X-pipe on Dad's, so that system could be used.
The Magnaflow system would sound better, but I could sell it where no one wants a used stock muffler. And the single system would be easier as I think I could snake it through w/o taking anything off, where I had to cut one tailpipe off the Magnaflow to get it out, so would have to weld that back on.
Probably. HOWEVER, I have an original Carter AVS, which would today be an Edelbrock Thunder Series, on the Bee. But, I've been thinking about the Bee's engine, which may build as a 440 instead of the 383, and I might put Edelbrock's three-deuce manifold on it, making it a 440 6-Pack clone. So, the AVS could go on Dad's, which would give me the ability to tune the point where the secondaries come in as well as a bit more CFM capability.

Thoughts, y'all?
Nuff Said...Whoever gets Rusty will put whatever system they want..My .02.. Trav..
I don't think it matters which exhaust goes on Rusty. He really isn't a hot rod or performance truck so the exhaust is sort of irrelevant. If the magna flow is the stainless lifetime muffler it may add a little value or desirability to him though.
Didn't get much done today. Installed the starter and A/C compressor. But, that meant I had to figure out the rest of the bracketry - which is my least favorite thing to do. Ford sure went out of their way to make the brackets complex, but with the parts catalog I think I can figure it out. However, as I told Bruno, I want to keep Rusty around as an example until Dad's truck is done.
Got the power steering bracket and pump on today as well as the belts. Then put the core support on. I'd forgotten how many fasteners are involved with that:
2 large ones for the frame mount
8 for the two core support-to-fender brackets
2 for the passenger's side inner fender support
4 for the fender-to-core support tabs
Wow, 16 fasteners for just one part! But, as I look at the picture it looks to me like the core support is low on the driver's side. Hmmmm, I'll have to check that out tomorrow.
So, here's what is left before driving it:
Hood latch support and the latch itself
Exhaust system
Battery, which is now on charge
Radiator, hoses, and a bit of coolant
A/C condensor
Bunches of ATF in the tranny and transfer case
A little bit of Conoco lube for the engine, and maybe a new filter
Given that, there is a chance it'll fire up on Saturday. If not, Sunday?
Jim - Thanks. I haven't been motivated to put Rusty together, but using a borrowed truck to pull a trailer on Monday, and then having it break down, inspired me. Since it looks like I'll be moving Dad's truck's pieces soon I want to have Rusty to do the towing.
As for details, I really don't like to "throw" things together. And I'm going to be using Rusty for many months to move things to and from repair, like picking up the seats, taking the block to the machinist, taking the tranny to be rebuilt, etc. So, I'd kinda like him to be solid. Further, I'm expecting some of those trips to be outings with my wife, and having problems with her along wouldn't be good. Given that, I'd better "attend to details".
...I want to keep Rusty around as an example until Dad's truck is done.
I follow this exact same approach with three Tauri... two of them are or were just recently significantly disassembled, but the third is the template for what bolt goes where, how the hoses & wires get routed, etc.
I don't have a 1990s sedan parts book and ND Bill is in no hurry to help me with that stuff (he has it on microfiche) so I take a lot of pictures, bag & tag, etc... which is invariably never enough, I really don't like it when I have a large, cigar-sized, important-looking bolt left over after a new clutch & lower connecting rod bearings turned out it was from a motor mount bracket off of a donor engine and not needed.
I spent quite a while today with a page printed from the parts catalog trying to figure out how the PS steering bracketS all go together. Let me tell you, it cannot be done. I finally threw it away and played with the parts until I figured it out. Yes, the catalog helped, but only slightly. So, Rusty stays until Dad's truck is done. Rusty has many things that are together correctly and that will really help.
As for bagging and tagging, it isn't nearly enough. Today I spent lots of time looking for one of the weird "washers" that go on the core support's mount bolt, on top of the core support itself. Never did find it, in spite of my hundreds of bags and twenty or so bins to hold the bags. I have seen it some place, but it isn't where it should be. And, as I've parted out several trucks I should have at least 6 extras!
Those are the ones ha have the cross pattern cut out of them or maybe you are referring to the shims that go in there?
Yep, the ones with the cross pattern cut out - probably to make it flexible. I used a thick stack of the shims topped by two heavy washers to substitute.
I didn't use any shims between the mount and the core support on the first pass on either side, but it looks like I'll have to rethink that. Will put the level on it in a few minutes to see how level it is.
I was under the impression the cross was cut so that the support could be moved left to right or front to back in order to get the body panels to align correctly?
