Is a 460 out of another f series truck good? I have seen a few early 80s ones where the motor is for sale. I have heard it is illegal to put a newer motor in an older vehicle but I don't particularly care. I think The real early 80's or 70's 460 would be best. The later model ones were lower on power.

It should be. I've never heard of anything like that being illegal. Look at all the engine swaps the pro shops do!
The late 60's-early 70's 460's would be the best since they don't have any smog equipment nor ever game with it. The late 70's-90's 460's were the ones lower on power.
Just looked up the legal issue thing, apparently it's technically illegal to put an older engine in a newer car. But it only has to do with emissions. Don't worry about it with yours since it's emissions exempt lol.
Oh i thought it was the other way around. I couldn't remember, it was back in high school auto shop class that I heard about it. It didn't really concern me cause my truck right now is breaking all sorts of "laws" what with the exhaust and the tires and such. I thought it was around 78+ that had the lower power band but i could be wrong.

Nobody is gonna give the slightest crap with something that old and putting a different V8 in it. They look a lot a like anyways lol.

Actually you got it flipped. You can't put in an old engine that wasn't an option for your vehicle at that time. Example: You can't put in a 240 where your 351M sits (unless it is permanently off road). But, still as an example... you can (but it is a pain) put a Modular V10 in your Bronco. You pretty much have to make sure that your truck meets or exceeds the smog laws of that time.

Reason: I deleted an unneeded letter.
Eh I think the work load of a conversion like that would be bad. I would personally stick with a 460 where a lot of people have done it and have a lot of information they could share.
As said above, if you can get an early 460 you'll be much happier. It's not just the intake, it's the heads. Early attempts at 'smog control' were absolutely ridiculous.
That's the cool thing about not being in a hurry - When you're not actually looking, something will fall in your lap. Happens to me every time. Drives my buddies nuts though. I have one friend that has to have it NOW, and always pays top dollar. I wait patiently, and score a brand new 4" turbo back exhaust for my SD for $200.
I have had similar happen. Such was with this bronco, Instead of being impulsive like my older brother, I waited and after looking at one other Mustang (I wanted a 5.0 Fox at the time) This 78 came online and me and my mother went to look at it. Everything checked out and even though $2k is a bit much, i wouldn't have found one like this for any better. I have a while to wait too, i don't have a good enough job right now to pay for a motor rebuild so once i get one, then i can be a little more active.
It's all good my friend. I love my SuperDuty, but I have never, EVER found a truck with the soul of a Bronco. And I've had a few. I swear they hear you when you talk to them. And they fight back - trust me - so be respectful! I know you think I'm joking, but I'm not. I say hi to Buster (68 Bronco) every time I walk by him just so he knows that I'm thinking about him, even though I'm not working on him. He knows.
Before I bought my F-250 I looked at truck for a year and a half on craigslist every day. I think I turned down about 5 trucks due to rust and them being beat to hell that I had looked at lol. Some guy replied to my truck wanted ad March 12th and I wound up with something 10 years newer than I was looking for lol.

Oh yeah I know all about it haha. There are some days that it seems like my bronco knows what I am thinking and fights against me because of it haha. It's kind of weird. Maybe we are all just crazy but either way, I respect my Bronco and will always fix whatever is broken. In fact sitting on my front bench is all the stuff i need to get my thermostat changed and put my new temp sensor in. I just have to wait for a good day to do it. And i have brand new lugnuts to replace the old crappy rusted ones on the rear wheels, AND on top of everything I priced up a full kit for the rear brakes minus the drums. Comes out to about $45 or so. Per drum it was about $50 so I figured i would just re-use mine and have them turned or something. That will also have to wait till i get a day where the gravel I am working in, isn't wet.
