To continue, if I retard it to 12 I get a lot of popping an backfires. Even at 14* I get popping and the hard starting so idk.

I did however, do something productive. I went out to test my temp gauge to see if it works. And it does! I can get rid of the crap the PO put in and return to the OEM one. I just need to go buy the sensor. It sucked though cause I was told by my dad that I just ground the wire and I will know, he neglected to mention that I need to turn the key to the ON position first... After me and my step dad looked it up and found that part out we tried it and it worked perfectly. So all I gotta do is run to AutoZone and purchase a sensor and put it in. Too bad I am a serious procrastinator...

The oil pressure sending unit in my dads truck isn't working right, it will work on cold starts but not after it's warm, if you want to see a procrastinator that's him! lol. It's been like that for months, but it will get fixed soon. But that's the exact same way I tested my fuel gauge

My oil pressue is similar. It will read normal but after the engine warms up it drops to nothing. Still gets oil to where I needs to be though, from what I have read, that is normal. As I type I am waiting while my PB Blaster does its job. the old plug thing on the inlet port is stuck tight and I don't want to break it. I figured I would go the safe route and spray some loosener on it before retrying. Hopefully it works.

So all that's needed is a new temp sender for the factory gauge? easy fix lol. I had my dad remove a emissions plug out of my thermostat housing at work, he had a hell of a time lol.

Yeah the old gauge worked fine I gave up till tomorrow for the old emissions plug because the risk of breaking it is too high. If I break it then I might not make it to a friend of mine's house for a New Years party. I really don't want to miss that. I am soaking it in PB till tomorrow then I will try once more.

I have a small canister of camping propane and a torch adapter but I highly doubt it will be enough heat to get that sucker off. I will give it till tomorrow to straighten itself out before I bring the smackdown. Once i get back from my friends party and deal with work that same night I won't be as worried about breaking it off. Heck it might give me a reason to flush the coolant out of the motor, replace the thermostat, and clean the inlet housing. Maybe even paint it.

So I was unable to get that old plug out. I have also developed another issue. Right where that inlet tube is the seal is leaking. Its only a little but now I get to do the thermostat as well. So once I get don't with this party at my friends house, I will buy a thermostat and the gasket and fix it. Any recommendations on a t-stat? Stock I think is around 185* unless I am mistaken. I also want to take this chance to paint the inlet tube probably a glossy black. I just need to pick up another can of gloss black and some clear coat. I like painting parts and my current inlet tube is pretty greenish from patina.

Being that it's cold here what would happen if I put the repainted inlet tube in the oven on a low heat? Kind of like how they have a car heating up in the booth? It will still dry just fine in the cold and since it is a small part I am not concerned about getting it perfect, it is just something I have been thinking about.

Get a 180* stat from Oreillys or Autozone or what ever, I bought the most expensive one but there wasn't much of a difference between the middle one and most expensive at all, stay away from the cheap ones though.

Alright that shouldn't be an issue. Heck I wanted to replace the t-stat at some time, this just gives me a reason.

Hey we reached 1000 posts .

Anyways so here is a t-stat I found http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...832_1632_93208

Cheap enough for me, pair that with a gasket and a smackrel of rtv, then all will be good.

Damn I was afraid you were going to find those fail safe thermostats, I've heard nothing but bad news about them. Apparently they like to go in to fail safe mode and stick open or closed all the time. WTF $17.99? mine was $7.99 and I thought that was expensive!

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...rd=thermostats

that one should be just fine, I got the ultrastat in the 180, but it isn't listed for yours. Not hardly much of a difference between them anyways.

Mine is a Murray Motorad Ultrastat, not much of a difference. From the regular and ultrastat. They are a pretty well known company for cooling system parts I've found, mine works like it should.
