Well when i went up there the guy i talked to agreed that AZ is terrible at carb parts. They don't carry much of them but they have better customer service than oreilly's i think and they normally give me the right parts that i ask for. Where as oreilly's will get the part wrong a few times before someone knows what i need. There is one manager there though that kind of knows me and will get me the right part the first time. I just don't remember his name.

I don't think once I've ever gotten the wrong part before, that I can think of anyways lol.
I have a few times or i have had the guy behind the counter acting unprofessional and not really helping me. Then again that has happened elsewhere too.
So i might be getting the carb parts for xmas, for now though i might be following Matt here and using a coat hanger to fashion a linkage. It will at least allow me to drive it cold for work.

Using fashion coat hangers now instead of a regular one? getting fancy with it eh? LOL what the hell did I just say?
All I can say is it worked, mine could have been a little longer but my engine doesn't like much choke after it starts for some reason.
Haha i'm not sure what you said. These hangers are stolen ones from my old work. Their just metal ones, i bet my sister has fashion ones.
I have to measure it to make it the right size, not too much choke but not too little.
I didn't even measure mine, I just closed the choke and put the hanger down there and cut it off about half an inch long, made two 90* bends and installed it and curled it around the back a little to keep it from falling out.
The majority of my hangers are crap plastic ones of all sorts of colors haha, somehow I wind up with tons of them.
That's an idea, i planned on pulling my old link after seeing how much more i need then just kind of guestimating a length to cut. I have plenty of hangers to cut up and play with.

I'm sure if you took more than 5 minutes unlike me you could make a perfect one and never even need to buy one haha
Well it never hurts to have a back up right? I can always keep the new one in my toolbox. Since it comes with a bunch of other linkages i will always have extras.
well i got the lever fixed up. It seems to work better than before but still has an issue dieing right after running it for a bit. But if i hold the gas a little then it will run itself for a bit. I got a better story and all the pics on the bs thread but i'll post the pics here.
This is the old linkage next to the new piece i cut out of the hanger. I took longer than 5 minutes due to making the new one a bit too long. When i went to trim it i cut too much and made it the same length as the old one -_-
How it hooks in. Not the best but better than nothing.
The first on i made that was too short.
Rode my bike in the wind (matt knows what i mean) down to Fastenal and bough these 2 screws to replace my 1 old one. I had 2 torx head screws but one was bent and in the process of fixing it... I lost it in the garage . So i bought these 2 and they seem to work out ok.
All buttoned up and almost ready to go.
And the last part. I had a vacuum port on the choke thermo body and one extra port on the carb. I don't know if this is how it normally would go but i figured this made sense BUT after starting it cold, it ran rough and would die if i didn't push the gas. I am wondering if the vacuum is too strong and the little worn thermo spring can't hold it. Tomorrow i might unplug that vacuum and try it to see if it works better. Otherwise i will have to suffer.
Other than that, everything went smooth. Though it isn't the best fix it is something.
That wind was down right cold! I walked in it and as usual I'm wearing shorts LOL. I've only had a dying out problem if I didn't have enough choke, how far is it opening right after it starts?
Dylan, I think I just found an issue from the last picture, why isn't the vacuum advance hooked up to the timed vacuum port? my truck was on full manifold vacuum when I got it and for a while I didn't realize it, after sitting for a day or so it would want to die for a couple seconds from lots of timing. After I switched the vacuum advance to timed vacuum that problem went away. It runs lots better now too.
Eh i'm not sure. I started it to move it to get the ranger out and go help a friend move some stuff. I can diag tomorrow if it isn't raining. And yeah that wind was cold as hell, i almost didn't work on the truck. I figured this is the nicest day we are going to get so i should do something. Hopefully tomorrow will not be nasty.

Uhhhh yeaaaaah well i am not sure what timed vacuum is or where the port would be Actually when i got everything hooked up the advance was plugged into where the choke thermo is now. Another FTE member hooked it to the manifold and it ran super rough but that was before the 4bbl. I asked my brother (who seems to know a bit about tuning carbs) which port to put the dizzy on but he didn't really know. We just threw it on one of those 2 in the front and went with it.
EDIT: so i read for the AFB carbs (not sure if it is all or just the one mentioned) that the port for vacuum advance is the driverside. The pass side is ported vacuum and shouldn't be used for the dizzy. I have had it hooked up to the passenger side one. Oops. Then again i read this on a Chevy forum so idk how true it is.
