Just running water into the radiator won't flush it compleatley..you need to add something to help dissolve the rush if there is any or other junk that may be in the radiator....also if you back flush down the thermostat opening you will get a lot of junk out of the block....
have you looked at my stuff..if so what do you think.....
I like what your doing with your truck
Ya i figured it wasn't going to be the best job but it will get the old crap out for now. I have it draining as we speak, i found a little wing nut lookin thing that is draining it so i don't have to make a big mess
As for your thread it looks pretty good so far, the pictures are good. I went back there recently and found that the pictures are no longer working though so you may have to look into it.
As another update, I am doing the coolant stuff and hoses
this is what my old hose looked like, pretty worn out.
New hose ontop of old one (not yet installed still draining)
AAANNNNNNDDD for the best part lookie lookie
thats right, i finally snagged the sag, it was real easy to get out of the truck and didn't even have to cut the lines. Unfortunately i will need new lines as one of these has a big cut in it.. No biggie.
I grabbed everything i took off, so hopefully i can use it for something.
When i look at my current pump and this one i actually have a spark of hope i might be able to work it onto the old mounting spots.
Here it is somewhat cleaned up.
So it might be a while before i actually swap it in but at least i have it now. Once this coolant stuff, is done i might start looking at the mounting to see what the situation is on that. Other than that not much else going on.
Thanks guys, ya Brett i plan to go through all my email notifications again, i just figured while i was waiting for the coolant to drain i would post up on here. I also snapped a picture of my old coolant, it started off looking like ****, then the rust went down when i sprayed water in.
Very nasty stuff. It was a big PITA to do the hoses, the upper one is almost too short due to the body lift. And the bottom being under the belts and stuff kinda sucked. Oh well it's all done and no leaks. I actually have a good feeling about the Sag pump but i haven't really done a side by side comparison yet so i won't get too excited. So far the pump looks like it is in pretty good condition, there isn't any play in the pulley that i can feel and it seems to turn ok for a junk yard part. We shall see.
Ya i feel better about it now, seems like the heater got warmer faster too. Other issue is though, i now have no temp gauges... neither one is working anymore so i can only assume that since there isn't smoke or the lovely smell of burning engine bay that it is doing ok.
see if you knocked off the sender unit..it's on the block just left of the thermostat housing..you can see it in these pictures...i put a mechanical one in my truck..hope this helps
There isn't a wire going to my thermostat.
This is where it is supposed to be i think,
I can't find any wire to plug into it.
And that wire with the metal wound around it, that is the aftermarket sending unit wire.
The wire may have shorted or broke at one spot, i wish i could use my OEM sending unit but i don't know where the wire is or how it works.
So this is what i have found.
The Sag is on top of the old one and looks like it might just line up pretty good.
This is approximately where i think the long bolt with that spacer would go
I feel pretty confident here . I just need new lines. Would it be better to bring the whole pump in and have them see if they have lines for it? Since i don't know the year of the e-van.
the thermostat for the broncos is on the front of the engine below and too the left as you look at the engine head on...you see in my pictures the wire..that is my mechanical water temp gauge installed on the block...there are 2 openings on the thermostat housing that you can use..however the block is more acurate since it is in the water jacket..the thermostat housing get's hot as the thermostat opens....

Hey thanks, that really helped, so the aftermarket gauge is hooked up to the normal spot on the block then. Maybe i just have to plug the wire into the stock gauge or something.
Thanks for the link but i don't really have the money for that OR the patience to pull the fan off and the pulley... From the looks of things the stock SAG bracket i have should work with little to no modification.
