FSO6406A, there's limited models available in overdrive. That is, unless you run a direct drive with highway gears. There's a lot more options without overdrive.
Give me a few examples if you can and the one you mentioned abOve what vehicle is it from and its only one level of gears no switch for two levels right ? Also is an overdive that much more helpful ?
Yo big D are you up yet? I was reading Griggs forum post and he is brilliant he says The road ranger has a clutch brake also reading how the road ranger weighs as much as the fso but it seems the RTO6610 is the best option now my question is if I'm not hauling ever less than 1 percent is that an effective daily in a 3/4 ton truck most people on the forum unread are running roadrangers on a 1.5 ton 47 ford and a 2 ton 48 Chevrolet ie grigg
I'm up now.
I can tell you that the trannies I listed are available in pretty much any of the main 3 Med Duty trucks(IH, Ford, Freightshaker).
The road ranger has a clutch brake when you have that type of setup. They can be a pull type, or a push type. 98% of cars & puckups use a push type. Yep, the one I listed is just the main 6 gears, no hi-lo switch. I'm just pointing out that the RTO is a smooth shifting, well made, and strong trans for its size.
Either one of those 2 are a great option. You could get by just fine without an overdrive, if the axle gearing was geared to make up for it. There's a lot more RT610's out there.
You can change your options as many times as you like, up until you buy it. You may get a smokin deal on an RT610, and alter the plans to fit it. Just like I wasnt planning a second turbo.
What compounds should I try to get to work into my equation and no for fuel economy and speed shifting and all application usable gearing I want a RTO not RT
I just re read this entire thread and it seems I have a hard time listening to you my friend...
How Long is the Deere 466 compared to the dt ?
Also you told me to run a 466 with a fso and see what people think
Also you said a 450 hp 18mpg daily... Ur the expert tell me what to do Dale I feel like a little kid getting to excited when from the second page of this thread I should have shut the hell up and listened to you
The compounds I'm thinking are an S480 or HT4B for the big one, and an hx40, or S300 for the small one.
I'm pretty dern sure the JD 466 is within an inch of the IH 466's dimensions.
I'm no expert, If I was, I'd be getting paid for it.
Fuel economy also depends on driving habits. I was putting an mpg number that I thought was actually attainable.
6 speed OD and it's one set of gears no switch right ? Cause that's what I'd prefer also does it have a clutch brake ?
Dt 360 and those ht and hx turbos are cheaper arnt they ? What would I have to do to hold down the power and if I have 450 ish hp will I need 4x4 ? And with those turbos won't I push over 450 ?
To hold it down, like traction? The fuel system has more of a bearing on hp than the turbos. Think of them as a tool to clean up the smoke & cool down the EGT. There's more science to it than that, but it's the idea behind it. You could use 4x4 on a farm, so it is a good idea. You could have a clutch brake, but it's not neccessary. Yep, that FSO is just a plain ol 6 speed like a ZF6.
If you are for sure limiting to 450-600hp, then I would go down to an HT3B, like mine. Stick with the HX40/16. Timing set to 22*. Injectors, 7X12. The 205, the fso6406. I think fabbing up the clutch linkage would be the only actual difficult task in the whole swap. The rest is just tedious little stuff.
