Competition swap

I have a gasser ford but I want diesel and I'm literally exhausting every angle before I pull the trigger

Everyone has put a cummins in a ford,

How reliable is a 6.6L duramax in a ford 2000+ F250 and how do they compare to a cummins in parts and how hard would a swap like this be ?

Duramaxs are good engines, but the Allison makes them great.

If your looking at a diesel swap. Yes people have done the Cummins and the 12V is by far the easiest. You can get a whole Dodge with one for about $3000 if you really look.

I think even the next generation after the 12V is also very plug and play. If you can find a marine package it all self contained like a kit motor. All you would need to do is hook up a hand full of wires. I have seen a couple, but they are expensive becouse usually they have low hours. Plus they swap very easy.

Well I have a 12v p7100 pumped 95 cummins 6bt but like I said it's been done to death. What would it take to put a duramax in a ford and an Allison is not manual. I don't drive automatic

Theres a real reason cummin's have been done to death. They are still currently the best, and probily will be that way for awhile. Also the design is basically the same all the way through so cross modifications are easy enough.

Sure the D-Max can be hopped up, and certain years are quite reliable. They are no Cummin's when it comes to sheer toughness.

I would either do a cummins or find a Ford with the motor tranny combo you want and fix it up.

Why Dmax? There's also a host of inline sixes that can be fun. Examples: Ford(New Holland) 6.6 litre, Perkins 6.354, International DT360 or 466, Isuzu 6BD1T, John Deere 466, just to name some off the top of my head.

Here's a DT360 that went in a Super Duty. He even has a burnout video in there.
DT360 pictures, photos, and videos, from cars on webshots
For a pickup, I would say the 360 gets first choice. Tractor pullers have been making well over 2000hp with them for years. It's a rediculously stout engine.
The Ford 6.6 is a little bigger(longer) than the DT360, which is what I'm using, and here's my album:

Hard to tell actual engine size until it gets in there, but I'm going to have to set it back into the firewall about 5".
Then, a DT466 for the very serious swapper. It's real long, and pretty tall. Will require a new firewall & half a floorboard. Likely a body lift too. It should be classified as a competition only swap. Then again, I have visions of a 466 in a heavy duty T bucket.

I want a competition work ready daily so the 466 seems to radical. Also if I had to recess the engine into the firewall how would that be done I am going to attempt all this for the first time with some friends that are truck and coach mechanics lol I want to learn and see what happens..

For all practicality, and drive-ability look towards 450hp or less for a daily driver. It would get probably 18mpg, just like a Cummins. Transmissions arent too hard to come across. Best to work with a wrecking yard for trucks. They'll know what works with what, like clutches & linkages. A good trans to use is the RTO610, if you like shifting(10 spd). Others are the FSO series from Eaton.
Run the idea of a DT466 across them, and see their reaction.

But Wouldn't a 10 speed Increase the gas Milage to daily usage ? And what T case would u use on such a rig and can all this fit in the stock 2000 bay and transmission tunnel cause if I'm going this far out I might buy a 1957-60 250 But can their frames in new or old 250 hold that power and torque and would I have to upgrade to shortened semi axles ?

That 360 I mentioned in my first post, that guy is working with a machine shop to make adapters for the DT to mate to a ZF trans. Dana 60 and Sterling axles will hold up just fine. Tcase? A divorce mount NP205, or one from a MD truck or Deuce & a half. The 99 & up frame will take it just fine. The 57-60 should get boxed, or put the body on a SD frame. The 10 spd has the same final drive as a 5 or 6 speed(.68-.71), so mpg would be any different. The big benefit being a gear for every occasion, so you could run tall tires with 3.08-3.55 gears.

I don't quite get the benefit of a 6 speed vs a 10 speed but a 10 speed would be insane and again how do I get up to 1000. + horses with 18-20 mpg that's the goal I want to understand this and build a sweet jacked daily that can smoke my brothers 400hp Dakota

The 466 is 3" longer, and an inch and a half taller than the 360. Yes, the 360 will get a little better economy anyway. You can get 1000hp by big injectors, pump work, 2 big turbos, head & main studs, HD rod bolts, lower compression pistons, and probably a few little things I'm forgetting. If you're looking at 1000hp, then the 466 would make more sense, and probably have better manners. Besides, it would only take 300hp of a diesel to beat a 400hp Dakota. Figure the torque on a 360 is double the hp, and a 466 is 2.4 times. As quoted by Hypermax, you can build a 1000hp 466 for $10k. Here's an idea on how big a 466 is by fitting in a Dent side F250:
