I am just waiting on the tie rod end flip sleeve (s) to arrive. It is a race between Ruff Stuff and WFO Concepts, and then I am back at it. On a side note I am about to score a awesome deal on some EFI stuff, and the ol red bronco might be EFI here sooner than later. I know I know 1st things 1st, get the dang front end back together.
Got this today, and I mean I got a smoking deal, all about 99.999% new. Along with 2 distributors, the computer for the Painless Wiring harness. A in tank and frame side fuel pump, fuel filter, large filter style assembly. The bottom intake part for top plenum. New fuel rails. A OEM steering wheel and horn bar. A bunch of other stuff and a 1" binder of the old school method of JY EFI parts shopping from West Coast Bronco's.
Ok so I now have BOTH sleeves (both from different companies) and both instructions say to drill the knuckle with a 7/8" drill bit and insert sleeve. So I am getting ready and thought I would do a little test fitting of things before hand.
Side note I had to replace the current sleeve in it a long time ago to tighten up that tie rod "fit", and it is worn out...and I can not remember where I got it.
I test fit each new sleeve on my new (not installed yet) tie rod end O'Reilly's part # ES2234R, and neither really fit at all, sleeves are WAY to small to get fully seated. And yes I tried fitting it from both directions.
So the current passenger side tie road end is ok...ish, I just figured I might as well replace it since it is a little loose. And it is for sure NOT a GM one ton, it is smaller and yes the new sleeves fit it, but are almost to big. This is getting annoying, working on what seems to be a Franken Bronco at times.
Let me get to my paper work on the sleeves and give you the specs for both. And then also the new tire rod end specs. ES2234R is the Oreil'ys part #. Taper Length (Dimension D) .82"
I was sure I got the correct sleeves for the tie rod in it now and or for the replacement one.
sorry to put a stutter in your step. You’re headin the other direction. But in post #687 you show
a coupla “thimbles” (I call em) for thru-rocker exhaust (the part between the rocker and exhaust pipe).
Got any conections back to owners, installers or others to help me source the item? I have headers,
hook ups, muffler and others for similar (only need 1 side) but dont see the ‘thimbles’ anywhere...
Thanks so much~
thanks.
Certainly thought I look there... and everywhere from JC Whitney to BCB & LMC -lol-
U think they ues them for noise (pipe banging), heat (we have thimbles @ roof-top’n celing for
wood stove), 1, the other? both? something else~
Continued luck w/the HB Bug (lets just see some “good" here on out, no?)
“...FYI... working on the Red Bronco,...”
Ahhh... thnx U for that correction. Good Luck
wid it AND...
thnx for ideas, pic, links you’ve offered me over the decade.
Not sure I offered much back (may B a 2nd brain 2 bounce
ideas offa @ the begining of that time period if anything~
Well decided to pull the "make it useable now" trigger. Going to drill the replacement passenger side knuckle up to 7/8", install the WFO Concepts flip adapter I got and get it back together as is.
Then when I have more time I will figure out the cut down length of the Bullet Proof steering links, but only cut one end of the drag link and one on the steering link. Then tap them for the heim joints. And figure out if I am going to reuse the old pitman arm or the one that came with the Buller Proof stuff.
So yes once the knuckle is 7/8 and then down the road come time to upgrade to the Bullet Proof stuff, I will drill the knuckle up to 1", get a 1" down to 3/4 straight adapter sleeve and install at a later date. That way I will have more than a 16th of a inch sleeve adapter.
My machine shop owning buddy is going to tap the DOM steering links. I do not want to mess up that job.
So I got off work a little early today and got the replacement passenger side knuckle drilled to a 7/8 (straight). Easy to drill straight when it in in a vice. And then tapped in the WFO Concept (tie rod over) flip sleeve. And then I finally got the knuckle installed along with the new ball joints. I plan on getting the replacement/upgraded axle shafts put in tomorrow (both sides) and get all that back together. Well that is a plan and having a plan is half the battle, right?
