Sounds like operator error to me.

Every manual transmission I ever drove shifts were calibrated with the exact same parameters, left leg, right arm................................

For manual trucks I have had 3 different tune set ups for 4 years.

Decaf- Stock feel
Half-Caf- in between Decaf and Caffeinated
Caffeinated- Very aggressive feel.

Tony (edmguy69 on FTE) is the one who helped me with those tunes.

It could be that Clydesdale just likes a certain aspect of the tune he has now. Not everyone tunes the same way.

Jody...

Please quote the post where I said you change my oil temps... I dont recall saying that...

Are you saying you do not mess with the oil temp timing at all???

Stock timing at 3000 rpm's should be in the 24* range... Some of your tunes run... hummm... somewhat more then that...

Blue graph is stock... Black is 80E...

Nope... No money to finish it, nothing left to sell... Going to have to get her running very shortly as she is going back to being a full on work truck.

I find it interesting when I see someone install a motor with problems and excessive blowby, installs a tuner, and then blames the tuner when the engine goes.

Let see here...

New short block installed, along with said tuner
Has what I think is too much blowby, but tests in the high end of the limits but other wise is fine. Good compression and runs fine

After 30k oil pressure goes to nothing, so the motor is pulled only to find every piston is cracked, and so is the block. Good golly, what changed from the first motor to the second... DP...

Hummmmmm

I respect most all advice you give and you know way more than I do. And I hope to meet you one day, but the DP bashing is getting old. Well I said it, most everyone else is thinking it. I'm positive there are windowed blocks and holed pistons out there that were running other tunes. My flame suit is on, but no matter, I've said my peace.
You are 100% correct... There are many blocks out there that are windowed running other tuners. The differance is (for most of them) they were running much higher HP levels then the "norm" is for DP.

I guess you could call it bashing if you want, I call it an opinion. You like them, the tunes, and so did I. Still have not found a tuner that can tune the tranny as well as Jody, but it does me no good if I have to push the damn truck down the road.

Something else that is scary... I was running PMR safe and Water/Meth tuning when the block went for a walk...

So I should have had retarded retarded timing...

Yes, but IIRC, they're using a third party to compile the data. One of the things they were worried about is the appearance of exactly what you're referring to.

I guess I need to get some input from Tony here (hopefully he sees this and stops by) I've always been able to make my truck shift as firm or soft as I'd like by the leg / foot / arm approach Clux mentioned. I'd be interested to hear the difference in shifting feel between your different tunes from Tony. This is the first I remember reading about different shift feels on a hand shaker (aside from a clutch change).

Thanks for chiming in on this barely civilized thread (or much more than civilized compared to some other forums) and not bad mouthing other tuners or trying to beat your own chest.

Whats scary is...

There is a group of people who tell people NOT to post on that survey to protect there tuner of choice... An active group of people.

I hide nothing and speak my mind...

There was a lot more motors on the orignial ITP motor survey that will never be posted again. Part of the reason that survey went byby...

Is it something to do with throttle response?? I can see how that would change shift feel.

Jody likes to tune 80% of the fuel in the first 40% of travel in the peddle... It makes it hard to shift a manual...

One thing I have noticed in all the tuning I have run... I like 100% throttle at 100% throttle... DP was 90% at about 60% of the throttle...

I can see how that would change WHEN you shift. Quicker response means you hit the desired shift point sooner. I still don't understand how that changes the FEEL of the shift, but apparently there's some sort of foo-foo coffee sounding interpretation I'm missing. (I like funny sounding, flavored coffee names even less than I like auto trannys)

Post 119....

You can't adjust temps, you can only adjust the timing. That is not the same thing.

You have not answered my question about the stock 7.3l calibrations.

Example: Diane Excursion is running at WOT 26* of timing in the 80hp Econo. That's at WOT. Her factory stock tune is 24* at WOT.

So you will know, the Stock Calibration TDE1 has 45* of timing in 1 of the EOT timing tables. There's 2 EOT timing tables.

So yes Joe I do modify the EOT timing tables because that is too much timing.

Due to our new tuning software capability I can see each adder, datalog the adders, see the Total SOI while driving and play it back later. To verify the data I also datalog, FDCS, CPM, CPS, Trans temp , EGT's, Boost, Coolant, Oil temp in the Pan, Oil Gally pressure and any of over 4000 parameters.

If that's not enough, I'll be glad to show you my graphs.

Pretty cool stuff.

Jody
