What made you decide to go back to stock and sell your tuner?
I'd like to get a tuner for our truck, but have read a lot of stuff on this forum and talked to lots of folks around here and will hold off. I'd like the tuner for mpg increase alone and have zero desire to build a high performance truck. Our truck runs great and we work it daily. It would be a write-off if we bought it.
With a 6psd especially, I highly recommend PHP. Drives and shifts like stock, but with more power. Driveability is much better than some of the other tunes I have tried.
I installed my DP, I am happy with how my truck runs. I like driving around with my 60tow tune, I don't like the 80e trying to drive around town.. to touchy. on another note, I had my supercharged lincoln tuned, 1k miles later, I blew the motor. I went and fixed the motor, took the car back to the same tuner, and he went over everything again. He got the car to run great. It was a fluke that the motor blew, the tune was fine before, it just let go after 1k miles. Am I nervous after all the hatred I see about DP sure, does it make me want to go out and pull my chip. no. I could see how some hate the tuner could the issue have been fixed, probably. What engine out their hasn't let go one time or another.. It can happen to a brand new vehicle. look at chrysler.... I really don't visit this site much, lately all i see is hate and blame to a certain tuner. pretty much tired of it. the whole gas vs. diesel, ford vs. dodge vs. chevy. vs. toyota vs. blue, vs.red...... If it happens to me well than so be it. I bought my truck used, no idea how it was taken care of before me. ok rant off.
I think the bottom line here is that there's no free lunch. Regardless of who does the tuning or how they do it, more torque at the rear wheels means more torque on internal components (engine, driveline, etc). With that said, my truck is tuned. I love it. I knew getting into it that from a logical standpoint I would be putting more strain on the truck. But, I don't put more than 10k miles on it per year, so I'd rather have my fun and efficiency now than have the truck rot around an engine with tons of life left on it. I guess it's like a lot of other things... best done in moderation and with balance. With Bill's guidance, I opted out of the 120 tune for the sake of reducing strain when I want to get on it. The 100 is still a blast though. I went with a 40 tow just in case, even though the heaviest I tow is 8-9k. So, personally, I'll take a little risk, but do it conservatively.

point is that if you tune your truck be ready for the turnout! if you pull your truck out on a road your taking a risk. whether it be a wreck, blown motor,or speeding ticket. Nobody "planted" a tuner in your truck without you knowing. notice i said "tuner" cause any of them can ruin your day. and that just got layed down.
I generally agree with most of you. BUT, there *are* different approaches by different tuners. I've had two of them so far, and I'm quite happy with where I ended up.
A year or so ago, "everyone" said 400 max on PMRs and 500 on forged. Then a bunch of forged engines started popping at barely over 400, and PMR engines popping with Stage 2 singles. Today, I'm running over 400 on PMRs with 235cc/100% hybrids, and there is a guy running **600cc/400%** hybrids on a stock forged block. Something is different.
I've had my DP in for somewhere around 8 months or so. I love it. I chose DP, no one else made that choice for me. I drive around daily in 80E and sometimes kick it up to 120R and if I smoke out some ********* I'll be more than happy to kick it up to 140X. I have had no problems so far. If I do, so be it. That is the risk I took. If I start to see a mass failure of any certain tuner than I will reconsider my options but until that time, I'm all set. Oh and I drive Ford, drink Yuengling, smoke Marlboro, chew Cope Snuff, and eat any kind of meat. Since we were talking about preferences...
EDIT: Wow, I used characters for my word that got bleeped out. Sphincter or anus would be the clinical term lol
I like my DP, I like Miller, I like hunting. I like America. To each their own.
Good post... I like Coors and Long Islands... But I have tried all differant kinds of beers, and drew my conclusions on what one I liked best after using them all.
Some of them made me sick, some left a bad taste in my mouth, and some were good, but cost too much...
Point is, You like your DP... Have you ever tried anything else?
Another point... If you like Miller, but lots of people around you were getting sick from drinking it, would you continue to drink it down without a though, or would you take a step back and ask whats making all these motors blow... errr people sick???

Correct, it can...
Problem is when it keeps happening to the same people with the same tuner... Ya start thinking, maybe there is something going on here...

Exactly...
6-7 years ago the "HP Limit" for Forged rods was said to be in the 550-600hp range... Then all these "econo" tunes came out and blocks starting getting trashed at 400-425-450hp... People said "well I guess the limit is 450 before you need to dump $2500 for a set of rods"
Now... Again... People are learning its not the rods that are the issue... Its the tuning that is the issue...
Now all of this is just my opinion, and you are intitled to yours (even if its wrong...)...
3 years on the dp with no problems at all and I can guarentee when the motor blows and someday it will, I won't be blaming the tuner. It takes way more than a tuner to blow up a truck. Engines and there internal componants FAIL especially when you try make them do MORE than they were meant too. Its a chance we all take. Choose whichever tuner tickles your fancy and quit bad mouthing the others. Nobody has proven that ANY tuner is bad, its all blah blah blah. I mean Diesel Power ran a test with them and they gave positive feedback on ALL of them.

LOL... You kind of people kill me...
Your right, 45* of advanced timing will not kill a diesel motor...
nope, just not possable to have a stock long block hold up to Nitrous and 650+ hp... Cant do it, have to have billet rods and a filled block...
Wait... You can... Just have to change your tunnnnner...
