Well it's sat for like four or five years, or more, and has been out in my rather leaky storage shed for about two years. I've heard that old gas would smell like varnish, but this is just one wacky odor. Blech.
I can't wait to get it rebuilt though. It'll be nice to actually have my truck running right, instead of way rich. Hoping for better mileage too.
Another mini-project I want to tackle is wiring in my tach and Autometer backlights to the instrument panel light circuit. I figure I can tie in right before the ashtray light socket with a T-fitting, and since it's only two LEDs and one subminiature wedge bulb, it shouldn't put that much extra load on the circuit.
But then what to do with the three holes where switches have been for the past year and a half? :P
Gonna be at some point. Right now I'm just planning on saving up some money to get the carb kit. I'll have to go out to my uncle's house once I'm done so he and I can fix the threads, since he has the tools to do it.
And this reminds me, I'll have to get another wingnut for my air cleaner housing, since the carb I'm going to rebuild uses a smaller size threaded rod than the '84 carb I'm running now.
When I rebuilt my Holley, the threads were stripped. The last person to rebuild it used JB Wled to hold it on. I cracked that crap off, and Help or Dorman makes a self tapping fitting to repair the threads. It was relatively cheap too.
Cool. I don't know if that's what my uncle has or what. He always has a (legit) trick to fix everything :P
Well I'm off, I got work in 3.5 hours, then a carpet shampooing job after work. Using a Kirby vacuum cleaner, of course (hence my username).
See ya'll on the flipside
EDIT: Haven't heard anything yet about the job...still waiting. Signed up on the Texas Workforce so if all else fails maybe they have something for me.
This is awesome. The instrumental version of this song was played as background music on one level of Halo 2. I don't listen to rock, but this song is just awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS6vwmrFxGo
