From: Bay Area, Unfortunately
I went tomy parents house to pick up stuff to take to the dumps. I was coming home and heard a huge pop and my truck dropped down on the right side and pulled to the right. I blew out one of my 36" Super Swampers on my GMC. I called the wife, got a ride home, got my tools and the spare tire off of my Ford. I went back there and had the old tire off and new one on in no time! (I LOVE my onboard air). Kinda bummed about the tire though. I might take the 33's off the Ford, throw them onto the GMC and try to find some factory Alcoas for the Ford (I always thought they looked sharp). Still bummed.

I looked like white trash with all the crap in the bed and tire blown out, and someone STILL stopped to offer me help - helluva guy! You do not see that anymore!

@ bghnkinf250: That stinks. Don't be bummed though....your Ford came to your rescue!

Last time I remember a tire blowing out was when my family and I were coming home from out of town, and the rear passenger-side tire blew out on our ~'87 Dodge truck. We made it home on three tires and a bare rim. That was a TOUGH TRUCK. We ended up trading it to a guy for a parts truck when we got my Ford though. I think the Dodge was having some transmission problems by then. And yea, people like that will be blessed.

@Jmeyer: All I have in the way of a pic of my truck is the one I posted in the Post 'Em Up topic....will this one work?

I could post the original un-smilie-faced version.

@ Everybody else: If I can find a rebuild kit for my truck's original carb, I'm going to rebuild it myself. Right now my truck has an '84 Motorcraft 2bbl on it that's running way rich. I'm going to totally clean it out, replace all the gaskets and seals, get everything adjusted properly, and maybe even see if I can get the electric choke working.

Cuz it'd sure be nice to be able to just start my truck and have it raise the idle on its own and warm its own self up, as opposed to me manually doing that. :P

You can use either version of the picture, makes no difference haha.

And as for the carb. I know that Car Quest still had the rebuild kit for my carb, 2bbl, Motocraft. so give them a try. and as for the elctric choke, yeah, it's a great thing to have.
use some carb cleaner, give it a good cleaning, worked great on mine!

There's a Car Quest not too far from me, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they have it. I had some trouble finding a model number to give to O'Reillys today though, when I called looking for a carb rebuild kit there. Which reminds me...

The O'Reillys store here in my town now has a loyal customer. I called this afternoon about the carb kit, and the guy stayed on the phone with me for HALF AN HOUR while I ran outside and got the model number off the wrong carb (duh), went back outside and got the right carb and looked for a model number on it (didn't have the blue tag like the '84 carb), and once I found a Ford number ("EITE-BA") on the bracket of this little vacuum doodad connected to the choke linkage, the guy looked it up on the computer, then looked it up in the catalog. Talk about customer service! Then after that, I asked if they sold any MSD ignition coils to fit my truck, and he looked in the computer, then called a tech number (I think), then looked in the catalog for it. I think they have a High-Vibration coil to fit my truck and it's $50. If I do pick up a new coil I'll probably just pick up a plain ol' MSD Blaster and be done with it. That and a new distributor cap and cables. But that's a plan for later on.

I go to O'Reillys most of the time for stuff, since they seem to have the best quality (then again, I've never had trouble with Autozone stuff either), but this really impressed me and means a lot to me. I made sure and thanked the guy for all his hard work.

Oh that's perfectly fine. No hurry, I don't have the money right now to get it anyway. LOL. I hope to be able to get it in the next few weeks though.

And I meant to add "thank you" to my previous post. I really appreciate you doing that.

not a problem.
now, the only problem I have, is that I own a 351, not a 302...
so i am not 100% sure if the carbs are the same, do you still have the carb number handy?

Only number I found on the whole thing is "EITE-BA" on the bracket for a little vacuum thing that has its little rod connected to the electric choke linkage. I'm pretty sure that's an I, not a 1, but I'm not 100% sure.

Wish my camera battery wasn't dead (and I had the charger I lost...) so I could just snap some pics and show you what it looks like.

Oh and right now, I think the '84 carb is running so rich that it fouled out the plugs in a matter of minutes. It ran great when I cranked it up after cleaning the plugs, but when I took off down the street for a test drive, it ran like booboo. Still starts up super easy though.

ok 1. i hate carquest.com
it sucks
and 2, is there a model number like 2150 or 2100 on your carb anywhere?

according to autozone, the results for a carb kit under a 1985 f250, 351W and a 1984 f150 302, are both coming up as the same thing.

but, i won't take the internets word for granted, I will look at the box tomorrow and see the part number, then just call carquest and see if it will work with your carb or not

lol

and

Nope. Just that model number I named off, and a few scattered letters or numbers on various bracketry. BTW the carb in question is off an '81, I think there are a few differences. Namely, this one has different vac fittings in different locations compared to the '84.

Which reminds me, there's a vac fitting on the back of the '84 carb, right below the area where the air filter housing sits. I'm wondering if that's not a vacuum leak there.

And problem: The threads in the hole where the fuel filter fits are bad about halfway in. I suppose I could disassemble the carb and retap the hole to the next larger size, then run a larger screw-in filter, or use a plain fitting at the carb and have an inline filter...

oh, yeah being off an 81 might make a minor difference haha
still worth a shot, and hey, if it's not the right part, then they have something to work off of.

and about the vac. part.
i don't know how to check for leaks on vacuum lines, but if it's sucking, then there must be a leak somewhere haha.
get it plugged, see if it makes a difference
