Boat anchors are always compromise between abilities to hold the ship and abilities of ship and its winches to carry it.
I agree the V10 wins in this category.

PSD's do weigh more, but for a boat anchor, any piece of scrap metal will work, hence, the V-10.

O.K. Bill, I admit the V-10 is a worthy engine. Just having some fun.

I know you just kidding.

I think it is safe to say that we have come to a conclusion.

Anything the PSD can pull a V10 can too and vise versa.

We just can't all agree on which does it better!

It's going to take more than adding the PI heads to a V10 to outpull a Duramax!

I know that.

My V10 may not out pull one, but it will out last one.

The whole truck is a joke compared to a Ford.

The duramax was first put into the Chevy/GMC heavy-duties in the 2001 models (produced in 2000). That's 10 years. To date, I'm still waiting for the engines to stop working, or to blow up, or something. At what point are all the 'the duramax is unproven and won't last' naysayers going to stop repeating unproven propoganda and start saying what is, instead of hearsay?

It's nice to be a fanboy and all (brand-name companies rely on it), but when it turns you into a robotic parrot, it becomes counter-productive.

I don't own a duramax, I have the 7.3L. Wouldn't have it any other way. But I have family members who do own the duramax, and who have owned them since nearly the beginning. The engine rocks.....And when they got the powerplant/tranny (allison) teething troubles fixed in 2002, the combination, is hard to match.

I think no one here likes to admit the Duramax has been and will continue to be a very reliable and competitive engine. Look how many Ford diesels been on the market since the duramax was released!

My dad has an 05 Duramax and I have a 05 psd diesel. Although mine has 114k miles to his ~80k miles, the Duramax has not been to the shop once for a repair/issue to date, whereas my 6.0 psd has been in the shop more than I care to admit and currently suffers from a oil leak and cold start issues. His Duramax also makes much better fuel economy between our two truck.

That is why a 2005 Dmax is 3,000 to 4,000 more on the used market. I have put about 2,000 into my PSD and it is quicker than a stock Dmax. I have run it with my brothers 2009 Dmax, though his is stock. If he does the DPF delete and programmer, he would smoke me.

Either way, I wil out pull a V10... and get places faster out of less stops. Last night I drove 390 miles in 6 hours and only stopped once for food. AND still have over a quarter tank left. Let's see your V10 do that!

i've driven a 7.3L psd, v10, and now a 6.4L psd... IMHO i would ditch the newer diesels all together- i work oil field and all of the emissions garbage on these new ones really hurts driveability... the 6.4L i got brand new in 2008 and @ 98k it burnt up #2 piston due to a high-pressure fuel pump + injector failure... dealership has had the damn thing for 7weeks now waiting on ford to warranty the engine...

This debate could go on forever, but that fact of the matter is the V-10 is cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, better cold starting, quieter, less stinky and way more reliable. It will not compare to a diesel for towing, but is more than adequate for most people. SO unless you to a lot, V-10 is the better option. Especially if you live in the cold north of Canada like I do!

See? It's unanimous, a V10 does EVERYTHING better, even the diesel guys think so!

Just a little off-topic here. If I had to buy a Ford Diesel it would be the trusty old 7.3. Rude, stinky, and loud, but a solid motor all around! I still prefer my V-10!
