From stoplight to stoplight, yes. But then again, most anyone can . I may not be first (ever), but I'll ALWAYS get there and that's what counts. And at 190K, longevity and reliability are definitely high on my list which is why the 7.3L was the only option for me.
10 years from now when you gasser guys are telling your "back when I had my V10" stories, I'll be telling "you see that diesel I've got" stories...
This V10 will still be on the road in 10 years, I think most of them will.
As far as reliability, how many times have you been towed? I never have.
Neither have I. I've even limped home with a busted leaf spring (with the frame resting on a stack of 2x4s zip tied to the leaf (the aux spring was busted like a frozen candy bar, but the main spring was still intact). It was a slow and bumpy ride, but I made it home. That's when I learned that 8K+lbs of truck + heavy articulation (I could rock it back and forth like a see-saw) + 7 year old leaf springs = loud *pop* followed by funny rattle. Luckily my wife loves to off-road too and didn't want a $2000 flat bed ride home! That's why I ALWAYS carry lots of tools when I leave the pavement!
That's the closest I've been, and that was self-imposed. I saw lots of people on the side of the road with a flat tire calling on their cell phone, all the while I'm driving by on blocks of wood with a busted suspension!
There is an aftermarket controller for the Torqshift available, and with that, and a manual-tranny PCM for the 7.3, and probably a bellhousing adapater, it could be done. Would you want to? Uh, nope
Was the wrecker going to have to tow you half way across the country??
I was 100 miles from home (about 40 from any real civilization) and 4 miles off the pavement on a 4x4 trail in the desert. A friend of mine was an idiot a few years back and busted an axle about 75 miles from home (near the highway) and it cost him $1700 to get it hauled. I figure it would easily be another $300 for the extra miles and trail ride.
Thank God I didn't have Josh or Bill's mom along or I would have needed a big rig wrecker to pull me out!

It really is kind of a neat feeling to have an older high mileage truck that has never had to be towed.

Wow, he got hosed. My family owns a wrecker business and we will haul any normal vehicle within 50 miles for $75. From 50-100 miles bumps it up to $100. Even if part of it is off road or out in the middle of nowhere or any time of night. I would have driven from Tennessee to Texas to get him for $1,700 lol.
We do charge more if we have to get the big rig wrecker out, so taking mine or Bill's mom out is a pretty expensive trip

That it is. My wife sometimes grumbles about how much time I spend working on the truck, but when I tell her how much the dealership wants for the repair/maintenance, she hands me a beer and says "have a good time."
A diesel is definitely an investment (in money AND time). If you don't have that "want" in you to own one, it's not for you (or your wallet). I've had gassers all my life until two years ago and have enjoyed them. I miss the rumble of the exhaust, but I'll never go back to spark plugs and give up my rattle! Besides, I'd just look like a fool driving around in a V10 with 2 gallons of spare oil in the back !

Did I mention that he was an idiot? Would you be shocked to know he is a Dodge owner ? I didn't think so.
I have only been towed one time. A Hyundai thought it saw a bulls eye on my passenger side front wheel and slammed into it. It broke the spindle on my truck but completely destroyed the Hyundai. It looked like an accordian.LOL
Even with the broken spindle, I drove the truck off the highway into a parking lot. Not a bit of body damage. Got a new spindle, new wheel, tire and hubcab.

I heat warped a spindle and have had a pull ever since.
